Where's IE 6.0?

Does anyone know when Microsoft plans on updating Internet Explorer? I just looked in the archives and Appleinsider reported on IE 5.5 in June 2000. It's been 2 years since there has been any update, which seems like a long time. Does anyone else agree?

    If the PC version of IE 6.0 is any indication...you're not missing much. Now the Microshaft has dominated the browser market innovation seems to have left. History once again repeates itself.

    Netscape's OS X version browser is pretty good. If MS updates IE I hope they bundle Outlook Express with it, but Apple's mail app does me pretty good right now anyway. Although I wonder what the do to an Oulook update.?

    They should at least do a maintenance release of IE for OS X. It has some strange quirks, and a lot of visual oddities... and it seems kinda slow too. Feels like it was a rushed carbon port to X...

    I wish they would--all the other browsers I have tried on OSX are dog slow--OmniWeb (whihc is great but just too slow--plus aqua ), iCab and Netscape.

    Some browsers must be a lot slower on some systems than others. I think that the latest sneaky peek of Omni Web 4.1 is lightning fast. IE is almost as fast. It depends on the site. For example Apple's web site renders noticeably faster than OW. I'm using a Pismo with 1 Gig of Ram. and cable modem on Airport.

    I just look forward to a day where I can get pages to load on my mac as fast as they do on my Windows machine....

    IE 5.5 got changed to IE 5.1, a final of which shipped with Mac OS X 10.1 I believe...can someone back this up? As a I recall it was actually version 5.1.2...

    i actually think that IE will be obsolete quite soon. The new Mozilla builds are incredible, and with a number of very promising versions for OS X (Chimera, Mach-o Mozilla, and plain old Fizilla), there won't be much reason to use IE anymore. Perhaps MS is aware of this, and isn't bothering to put too much effort into IE on the Mac anymore.



    IE 5.1 might soon be the Communicator 4.5 of Mac OS X.. old, klunky, and used only by people who don't know any better.

    Yeah, Mozilla 0.98 is really incredible. It renders pages really quickly. There are a couple of pages it screws up on, but it does really well overall. How's Chimera coming along?

    i use 000 microsh!t apps not one on my hdd proteus

    for IM, omniweb and netscape for web, mail.app for

    mail, appleworks for "office stuff"

    According to MS's internal BugTraq -



    Most of Mac IE5's major bugs, etc are listed as "fatal"



    which, according to my friend, means they will _never_ be fixed.







    Doesn't sound like they have much plan to do anything worthwhile if they are even gonna release a new version . . .



    maybe it'll have new colors!
