I just got Diablo II and I was wondering if there is any info on an OS X patch yet. I've got an ibook 500/384megs, is it playable in classic or do I have to reboot in 9 until the patch is available? thanks.
I tried playing last night in classic and it was not pretty. I booted into OS 9 and the game is awesome! I'm not a gamer and I usually have trouble getting into a game unless it's really straightforward, but this one looks like a keeper. Now if the OS X patch would hurry up and get here, I'll be a happy camper.

i've been complaining about diablo2 since i got my new imac g4. the stupid crap works like garbage with an nvidia card. it is unplayable in my opinion because it lags so bad, it comes to a standstill. it works 50x better on my old G3 233mhz with a 2mb ATI card.

Are you playing it in classic or in OS9? If you're playing in classic, make sure that you have the nvidia extensions loading up.
Don't even try playing in classic, it's a waste of time. Boot in OS9 or don't play. The game doesn't even work properly in classic. You can't see how much health you have, no progress bars, etc. It is an awesome game in OS9. Isn't that patch supposed to be about out now? Maybe I'll head to Blizzard and see what the latest word is.

defn playing in OS 9...not classic. i checked before, but i do have all the latest updates to nvidia as well as the game. who knows, maybe i'll have better luck when i can try it in X.
I emailed Blizzard last week and their official stance (they had a press release) is that an OS X updater will be available Q1, 2002. Of course, this is Blizzard, so they could actually mean Q3, 2005, but whatever.
i DL'ed the wrong patch too at first, but I finally got the right one. the patch-DL page on blizzard's site is a bit confusing. the game loads a lot faster in OS X, but it still lags the same as before. and the mouse doesnt respond well to the game either. (i have the latest OS X mouse drivers from Kensington, and it works fine in every other program.)
Well, I guess turnabout's fair play, right? I download the LoD patch first Sorry, I'll edit the link to make it more clear...
I'm having the same problem with lagging. I didn't have this problem under 9. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" /> I don't even know what cinematics are (I just started playing...)
I don't play online (56K hell) but I'm having some lag issues, too, and some crackling sound.
I find the graphics a little clearer, so it's a trade-off. I expected a couple glitches, it's sort of DII X 1.0, I would imagine there will be another patch pretty soon.
As far as the cinematics, I'm afraid we'll probably have to complete each act again.
It seems to work fairly well on my G4/500 DP, though not as fast as it was in 9.2.2. In Rave mode in 9 I got about 45-55 fps, now I get 30 with OpenGL.
Also it is not responding well to my typing, both in-game and in the Battle.net rooms.
And B.net in general is REALLY BUGGY! I've had tons of crashes when doing stuff in B.net. I even had the whole system lock up once. Couldn't force-quit.
Hopefully they will update it soonish. But it is still very nice to be rid of 9 for one more crucial ( ) app.

Boot into 9, DII under classic is terrible.
