Where is the cheapest price for a G4?

Well, I've decided to get my dad a G4 just to show him how awesome OSX is. Now I know there are a whole lot of web sites out there that have great deals, but I was hoping one of you could lead me in the right direction a little more directly. Apple.com is still charging 1000+ for a G4 and I know that can be cut in half very easily. Thanks for the help!

ebay is a good place for cheap G4s - MDD G4s are the best I'd say. My dad got a really good deal on one but it took a while to find it. I don't know why Apple sell their G4s so high. You'd think they'd actually want to get rid of them. You're right that the value is half what they sell them at, which is around $500-600. I found a few on ebay:

If you don't need the expansion of a tower, the old G4 imacs and Minis are even cheaper:

    One more link:

or small dog electronics online as well.

The other links may be better, though. I only know online mac resellers based on banner ads on sites like AI!

Nosey through the PMG4, iMac G4 and eMac G4 specs. Hints: You want at least a Dual 500 or a single 600 for web browsing, casual photo management and such, or a Dual 800/1Ghz Single for more intense photo/video editing. You also need 512 MB RAM minimum and at least a 40GB drive.

For instance, this here Mac. http://www.dvwarehouse.com/PowerMac-...ed-p-3688.html is a very good value at $689. Add a 256 MB RAM stick for about $27 (google for ramseeker, mac ram, etc.) and you've got yourself a relatively powerful bargain. For more power, order one or two 512 MB sticks for a total of 768 or 1.25 GB of RAM. http://www.18004memory.com/focus.asp...BD478169D38A13 38 dollars a piece.

Looking at those prices he'd be a nut to get a G4. A MacMini can be had for the same or less. Just pop a crappy display on it...even a new 17" LCD can be had for $150.00 or so. For $700...you'd have a decent little system for surfing, e-mail, and OSX showing off. But hey...buying a G4? You're going to pony up almost the same amount for a aging slug of a processor. Not me, thanks.
