Ok first off, i would like to say that i am very confident in my macbooks ability to keep out viruses and spyware etc. however, is there a way to do virus/spyware scans on my macbook without spending a whole lot of money? or a downloadable app?

For viruses, your Mac is safe. The only thing you can do is pass on a file with virus onto a Windows computer where it can do harm. You can use this to scan stuff before sending it to a Windows computer:

    http://www.clamxav.com/

    Free.

For spyware or a rootkit to work it will need to make a net connection. This enables you to monitor and deny net traffic.

    Free time-limited trial, $25 license.

    Frankly... I wouldn't bother.
