Point Of Sale (POS) software

A good friend of mine is in the early stages of starting a small retail business. I noticed he has tons of information about POS software for PCs under various flavors of Windows.

I know The Apple Stores use a custom made Mac based solution (FileMaker Pro?) as well as other Mac retailers, but I am having a tough time finding commercially available options.

I told my friend that an iMac with a bar code reader and cash drawer would probably be really easy to setup and maintain, if the right software is available. Classic or X.

I guess Invoicing and Inventory Control would be the bare minimum requirements.

If anyone around here knows about such products, please post information and leads.

Regards,

Bill M

    Bill...make sure to tell your friend that the POS system that meets every need is science fiction but Ensigns POSIM is a good start <a href="http://www.posim.net/msm_reporting.html"; target="_blank">http://www.posim.net/msm_reporting.html</a>;

    You'd be suprise what he could accomplish by using this in conjunction with a Database. Good luck!

    Great stuff hmurchison, thanks for the tip. They offer a free trial download which I am going to show my friend on my TiBook next week. Hopefully this will help him start looking to the Mac as a viable solution for his needs.

    Try MetroShop at <a href="http://www.ecommercesoft.com"; target="_blank">www.ecommercesoft.com</a>

    It's a WebObjects solution. I arranged a demo for a friend and I was very impressed. Only catch might be that it's designed first as an e-commerce solution, but they do have a POS module.
