There are multiple choices depending on what you want to do, and the complexity needed.
First there is Filmaker Pro which works very well together with MS Office for the Mac. It's also easier to use than Access. A few drawbacks though (my opinion) are that every table is in a document of it's own and the structure of the database is stored together with the data. If you want a more powerful db you should look into 4th Dimension.
I just looked at 4D.com's web page and found a PDF document that compares FileMaker, MS Access and 4D. Of course this comparison will be in 4D's favor, but it is this most powerful database of them (and most complex). Appleworks includes a simple database.
FileMaker Pro is an excellent database, easy to use, full featured and very well supported.
Valentina is a shareware database. You need to work a little harder to use it than FMP.
What are you looking to do? Small, personal-type stuff? Filemaker Pro is a great database and ease to use, though it's more of a flat-file database.
MySQL is available for Darwin/OS X. Very powerful relational database, but very steep learning curve.
Another option is simply to run MS Access in Virtual PC. I'm kind of being forced into this situation b/c I develop sites with UltraDev, which supports Access but not MySQL.
