Apple didn't make that many external changes to the MBP - they even kept the latch system (mine needs to be replaced for the third time on my PB) instead of a magnetic latch. If the MBP didn't get a major rework (or at least the latch) why would they spend that much time on the iMac?
Don't forget that the Intel transition left the Macbook Pro looking almost exactly like its four and a half years old predecessor (a design that will reach quite probably after this update a whopping five years cycle), while at the same time brought a new design for the Macbook.

I don't think I can see much that could be done with the Powerbook/Macbook Pro and keep it as thin as it is.
One thought I've seen over at ars on a discussion and at Daring Fireball, is that by announcing the MB and MBPs changes now there is a high likelihood that there will be a big announcement at WWDC. Makes sense to me. I think that new hardware or a major change to iMac is in store at WWDC.

If there is a big change long wait times could be in order, especially with all that seems to be buzzing at Apple these days.

Who knows? They could have easily announced the MBP changes next week. Unless they have other things that they wish to talk about. Obviously SJ will talk about Leopard and iPhone but could there be something else? Only time will tell.
I think just the internals (CPU, FSB, memory, graphics) will get upgraded a week or two after WWDC so we will have to wait until MWSF2008 to see the new/modified design.
First you had the all-in-one design (no floppy drive, colors), then the lamp shade (flat panel, wide screen), and now the computer behind the screen (VESA mountable, built-in iSight). Other than modifying the current design (less "chin", smaller bezel) I do not see what more can be done to iMac.
and I'm really really hoping for a multi-touch keyboard.
You're going to be let down then. Multi-touch was not developed for full computer use. It was made for handheld portable use. For example, notice at the MW demos, Steve was NOT typing like you would on a normal keyboard, he was using one hand. It's been developed for mobile typing and other actions for a minimal space.

Here's a thought... think they could combine multi-touch with those changable interface designs that were patented... they could make the keyboard clear to see the key functions change with each app, and apps could posibly include custom key arrangements, so they have the feedback of keys. However, if they do that, it won't be for at least two or three years from now. Displays and especially touch displays are too expensive now.

would the new imacs come with the beta of leopard, or maybe a coupon for it when it comes out?
i mean, have they done something similar in the past?
The last 2 iMac designs were both released not long before a new OS hit if I remember correctly.
Also they were pretty under-spec at the time, not much of an improvement on the previous models initially.
The first hardware revisions however made them more or less a must buy.

I am not talking about redesigning the Macbook Pro (which may happen in the next update), if that's what I made you think.

Nah, then we're well into iPhone month. Maybe some other time, but not then.

How good is AppleInsiders track record on predictions? Maybe they are wrong!
