No Quicktime 6 for OS9...

At WWDC, Jobs said Apple was putting all of it's energy into OSX, and had stopped working to support OS9.
Also, it looks as though QT6 won't be available for download either, as it is being integrated into OS 10.2
Maybe this is all common knowledge, I just realized it the other day.

Comments
1.) Qt has a small enough marketshare. The last thing Apple needs is to kill support for 75% of it's installed base.
2.) there is no technical reason Qt6 can not be OS 9 and OS X compatible.
3.) whether apple likes it or not, many pros are gonna stick with OS 9 for a while more because it works, gets the job done, is familiar and is compatible with everything they own. Not supporting those users with a crucial update like QT6 would be pretty low
...and an extremely effective means of bruteforcing people to migrate from their dead OS to something better, nice or not. Besides, the sooner OS 9 is gone, the sooner Apple will be responsible for making sure OS X is a fully-functional industry OS and not some new toy.

hmm... not entirely sure on this one. Seems like a lot of work to make it backward compatible for an already-declared dead OS (for development anyhow). Can't imagine how well OS 9 would handle QT6 features anyhow... maybe I'm just Xspoiled and can't remember using 9.
Does anyone else writhe in pain when they have to boot into OS 9?

It's pretty obvious... not doing so wouldn't just be low, but rather dumb and Microsofty?.
It is a cross-platform technology that needs to reach as many users as possible. Regardless of OS. Key content creating features (Pro) will and should be MacOS X only, but regular playback and such should be available in several flavors, from X to 9 to XP to Win98, etc...
We'll just have to see what happens this summer.
Jobs DID say that Apple had dropped OS9 completely. Remember? He said that 100% of Apple's resources were dedicated to OSX.
It wouldn't surprise me to see Apple drop it from OS9.
To me, this says that Apple understands full well that Mac OS 9 still has to be supported for its customers' sake.
He's asking developers to concentrate on Mac OS X development only, not stating that Apple is immediately ditching OS 9.

The consumer and pro apps will go all-X first, but QuickTime and AppleWorks will be updated for 9 for a little to come, I think...
I think that QT6 will be on OS 9 because it is already done. As to further version, who knows?

As JLL said, QuickTime 6 will be released for Mac OS 9, Mac OS X, and Windows.
I don't care if they don't do an OS 9 version. I personally can't stand booting into OS 9 anymore and it will be good once everyone is focused on OS X.
However I do think they probably will release an OS 9 version... or the player anyway, just to get people using it.

old software? you do know that it is impossible to do audio work on OS X right now and that video work is nearly as bad.
WTF? Think about all the people who use OS 9 who aren't developers. Schools, companies, etc. Now, suppose you want to deliver MPEG4 content because of the higher quality/less bandwidth. None of them can see it if there isn't QT6 for OS 9. I'd be so pissed if that were true, because it would effectively rule out MPEG4/Quicktime for any use.

I know a bunch of professional sound designers that lost there patience with the Mac and moved their soundcards (that in most cases cost twise as much as the mac itself.) to relatively low cost, high performance PCs. It´s sad to watch!
