The video shows that Apple put a LOT of thought into this thing. It may take a while, but this thing is going to change handheld electronics. Believe you me.
Absolutely. I am blown away. What a PHENOMENAL piece of technology.
And, as far as you nitpickers/naysayers are concerned: _____________
God. I can't believe everyone wasn't impressed. There was lots revealed that weren't previously noted, they're all on the attached article. Word and Excel support, and much more. Hello? Sometimes, sometimes I worry for this world. No people, it STILL doesn't have GPS and YES the SIM tray pulls out... IT PULLS OUT!!! Yeesh.
Ok, now that I've got that off my chest. This is gonna be so cool! I'm especially happy that those headphones aren't any type of "accessory" but an accompanying part of the phone. Very sweet deal. From Jobs wording at the keynote, that could have gone either way.
Wanting to see how the camera functions makes him "so hung up" on it?

Will the phones give Mac users any functional advangtages over non-Mac users?
Hey Wilco:
I really do think you have a quaint sense of humor (and place). In fact, I'll never tire of saying that you're one of the reasons I signed on to AI. I found your posts interesting.
But not lately.
Now, just so that you understand, I was responding to a guy who was responding to a post on whether/why Apple said nothing about iPhone's video capabilities and he said, "....also want to know whayt (sic) the iPhone's camera interface looks like. Dammit apple."
Next time, please, take the trouble to follow a thread -- and attempt to put things a bit into context -- before rolling-your-eyes.

Sorry if I was misleading
I was just curious as to how it looks. It's not a major selling point for me I'm already hooked on the total package of the iPhone; this is just one feature that hasn't really gotten talked about by apple.
Talk about no sense of humor. One thing I noticed is that the iPhone has everybody on "the internets" so wound up. It seems like everybody either wants apple to suceed or die and go bankrupt. I don't care if you get broadband speeds with 3G while finding your way to the corner store with GPS. Now, I completely understand how this may be important for people who rely on these features, but just because iPhone isn't perfect for youthat doesn't mean it's a bad phone. And cut it out with AT&T's network sucks crying; Apple went with whoever put up with persistence. Verizon was to scared to take the risk and AT&T was in need for something big.
Apple and MS and Palm and everyone else fanboys really need to step back and take a breathe. (me included) If the phone isn't that great why are you making such an effort to prove it.
I wish it was the 29th so I could be home, enjoying my iPhone. BTW, I'm coming off 2 years of a RAZR V3.
I think the low key gut in the video is a great choice.
Apple wants to sell this phone to people who don't think they can use a smart phone. The whole point is to make intimidating technology seem approachable and friendly.
I showed the video to my mom and she was sort of captivated. Compared to every aspect of her ostensibly bone simple Verizon LG phone, the iPhone seems like mellow happy land, and the affect of the guy in the video fits right into that.
I think most of us "get used" to the interface on whatever cell we're using and forget how actually horrible the UI is, how utterly unintuitive and clunky and arbitrary and ugly it is.
"High energy" isn't what's called for here. Soothing solutions to to the age old question "Why are cell phones so freaking hard to use" calls for easy going nice guy.
He's the guy that says "See? You've been struggling with that crummy phone, it's not your fault. This is what a good phone does. This is how a good phone acts. Aaaaahhhhhhhh........."
In regards to muggings yeah I expect the same in the UK as we have seen with the ipods. But no more just becasue its the iphone. Theives are opportunists.
Insurance will be a must for this baby. If it gets stolen then its your own fault it wasnt insured

I completely agree with you. You only bring out the eye candy to hide a bad product or attract attention, once you get peoples attention you need to show them that this is the product for them. The attention is already there. I may have taken it a step further and had a 'plain Jane' woman in her 50's give the demonstration. Maybe....
I've neither read nor seen anything about password protection of the phone.
e.g. email privacy or code activation of the phone if in particular.
There are likely to be security issues in companies and certainly there are personal privacy and theft concerns where passwords would be important.
~Innersongs
This is my biggest concern. Palm allows for both password to enter the device plus a secure "hiding" feature for sensitive contact information. I believe that even the Newton had some sort of password for log-in. It makes no sense to omit this feature from the iPhone, yet I haven't seen it discussed or displayed anywhere either. Frankly, I use my Address Book for storing passwords, serial numbers and such, and this is precisely why I don't sync through .Mac... I don't want sensitive information stored on someone else's servers.
the camera pretty much HAS to work w/ the 3 buttons on the side of the phone [vol up/vol down = digital zoom in zoom out] silent ringer switch = shutter release. it would be too awkward to pinch and stretch the image onscreen for zooming while trying to frame a shot.
if you're waiting for iphone 2g, how long do you think you'll be waiting for?
this model is coming out less than 6 months from christmas, i seriously doubt there will be an update before mwsf08, and even that is a stretch. i bet it's almost 12 months before a 3g or 3.5/4/etc and gps version is released.
like i've always said, i'm buying this as soon as i can w/o standing in line for 3 hours. i'll upgrade my phone again in 2 years and get whatever iphone is out at that time. [hopefully w/ at least dvd quality video recording and optical zoom.]
i wish people would stop saying that google maps is using gps. just give up hope on that one already. it's exactly the same as the google map site is now.

Agreed, it will be AT LEAST 12 months before a rev 2.0 iPhone is released. Plus, 3g phones are currently BANNED from being imported and sold here in the US.

Excel support? I saw Word support, but I didn't catch the Excel. That would be big, if true, because right now Apple doesn't have a spreadsheet app. Did you imagine that or can your point it out on the video?

the phone won't run excel. it said email attachments, including .pdf, word and excel, would be viewable on the iphone.

Wanting to see how the camera functions makes him "so hung up" on it?
Changing subject:
Will the phones give Mac users any functional advangtages over non-Mac users?
Everything looks great except for the pre-loaded ringtones.
I didn't see anywhere in the settings allowing you to customize your ringtones. That would be disappointing...
You could probably add them via iTunes .

It depends on the size of their stake in AAPL... and if they are shorting the stock.

If you are just into games, I am not sure that your demographic can afford an iPhone. Sorry. (I am not just talking about the cost of the hardware).
