Was wondering if there was a program like EAC for the mac? [doing multiple passes to ensure that the audio was ripped near 100%, and tells you percentage-wise if it ripped perfectly]........

if not......

has anyone used EAC in Virtual PC? how does it run/work?

thanks!

I never really understood what's so nifty about EAC.

CD audio tracks are data files like any other, correct? Copying them in their entirety to your hard drive isn't anything special.

I've copied audio straight from my CDs to my hard drive many, many times and have never had any problems at all -- and I have very sensitive ears. AFAIK, Macs handle audio CDs the exact same as data CDs.

Is the normal CD-ROM software on PCs just that bad that you need special software to re-read a CD multiple times to get the audio right? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I guess you could say ALL cd-roms read audio cds as data.....

the difference is that audio cd, when extracted, can still play & function with some of it's data being incorrect [interpolate] also as error correction.

i know that most likely, it'll sound fine, etc. etc. etc. and you probably won't detect it, etc. etc. etc..... but "technically" it's not 100%...... i know, i'm picky

with eac, the program [in secure mode] can do multiple scans of the cd-rom to ensure that it's doing it perfectly, if it detects hard to read areas, it'll re-pass them up to like 80+ times [for scratchy areas].

with enough mistakes & error corrections, there can be lil' hiss & cracks in your audio.

i'm wanting to backup all of my CDs onto my HD, but I want some type of read-out saying how much [in percentages] of the original data was extracted to my HD. [obviously, i want it to always say 100%]

is there anyway to re-compile a linux-based program for os x? cd paranoia i heard is the rough equivalent of EAC but for linux......
