RTCW Game of the YEar MapPack

The map pack is available for download on the net. It's an .exe file, but I have heard that Mac users can download it and use the maps too...

How do I extract the map files from the PC.exe file? Aspyr says it can be done with a tool called "UnZipper"? I cant find this utility, where is it? Does it run in 9 or X?

Try dropping it on Stuffit Expander.

Expander has unzipped self-expanding .exe archives for me before and sounds like it should work here.

No Kidding! I never knew I could "open" a PC .exe file with good old Stuffit Expander!

    This rocks!

I just got the maps installed and managed to get on a 1.3.3 server - cause it was not set to pure.

    My favorite maps in order:

Tram - whats not to love? (besides bad frame rates outside)

Ice - a nice departure from the other drab maps

    Chateu - vissually stunning map

    Dam - its dam good!

Keep - pretty good, but i dont like the objective

Rocket - eh, it's so so

I don't know about you but I'm having a heck of a time finding a 1.32 server to play on. Most all of them have upgraded to 1.33, which isn't Mac-friendly. Is there a way to sort by server version? I can check the server info box, but this is pretty much a fruitless pain in the rear.

No gobble there isn't any way to sort.....this patch for the pc side is total bullsh*t to me. The mac side just becomes compatable to play with the pc side, which meant tons of servers.

A week later they update and we macs get left out again. I could be way off, but I'd guess Activision/id gets a royalty or fee for games sold on the mac side. Why would you make a stooooooopid move like this.

It makes finding a game a pain in the *ss, which makes me not want to play at all!!!!

Sadly, there is no way to sort the list. You will just need to compile a favorites of 1.3.2 My Wolfenstein division has a 1.3.2 server: 131.230.221.194 It's almost 75% full all the time and is on a fast connection.

Activision is really inconsiderate and totally inexcuseable for this one. All it wouldve taken was a simple e-mail to Westlake (who did the mac port) outlinning what needed to be done for 1.3.3

I heard westlake submitted the mac rtcw single player demo to Activision well over a month ago and they just take their damn sweer time....ug, I love the MP, but hate Activision!!!!

yep this entire thing is an outrage. we finally get our update, but what's the freakin' use?? they upgrade everyone else so we still cant play on all those servers. they even took away my unlimited grenade cheat with 1.3.2...for what??? for this??? and now with all the log on attempts, we're worse off than we were before we got the mac update. by the time you can find a place to play, it's time to get off the game.

I just got MOH:AA and its WAYYYY better than Wolf anyway (at least for single-player, still experimenting with multi). I am gonna put Wolf on the shelf for a while and play MOH:AA until all these patch issues are resolved with Wolf (or MOH:AA becomes a "problem" for Mac users).

I was wondering about hosting my own RtCW server, but I have a few questions.

    1. Do I need to actually be playing the game or can I just let things run?

    2. If not playing, then can I surf the web, use MS Office and so forth?

    3. Could someone post their RtCW server settings for me to copy?

    4. If I act as a server, does it seriously slow down my machine or is it functional for other tasks?

    Thanks.

p.s. Major Matt maybe you can help me here.

    RTCW Server?

    LAN or Internet?

I would make it a dedicated server. If you plan on having it public with a lot of players, you Words from the wise:

    You better have a least a T1!

I serve games on my 10/100 LAN and use the same server Mac to play on, but I only have 4 players max-never pushed it...

For a cheap but serious 'net Mac server, I would buy an old G3 beige box, buy a G4 ZIF CPU (www.macsales.com) and throw in a ton of RAM, overclock the mobo bus to 83 Mhz, and put the Mac on a T1 with a static IP. The one snag is that you need an old ATI Rage128 PCI OpenGL card in order to get some Q3-based Mac servers to launch properly (some Q3 games will drop right into the console and others try to launch the app first-I forgot what Wolf does, sorry) Of course, I strongly suggest running OS X, and NOt running any other apps. I have built game servers many many times for friends who want cheap but decent quality mac game servers. The key is bandwidth!

I will have a Wolf server up online soon-doing tests...e-mail me if you want info

Okay - all I have is an LCD iMac 800 and a cable modem. It sounds like this may not work out. I was hoping to host a 1.32 server on the internet, but it sounds like it's beyond my capabilities. And since I lack the tech knowledge that you have I won't even attempt it unless the whole process is fairly simple. I think I'll drop the idea since it sounds like an iMac server with a cable modem is underpowered. Thanks.

It's mostly a bandwidth issue for a server. Our server is only a P2/400 and is smooth even with 20 people on it because it's on a OC3 connection.

So a plain old vanilla Comcast cable modem is underpowered I take it? I believe that my upload/download is somewhere in the mid-hundreds of k/sec. Probably not enough.

Your up-stream speed is probably 384k, which ain't gonna cut it, sorry.

My T1 is 1.5 MB up/down, and I never have more than 12-16 players on it without noticing a performance hit...

You CAN serve a 1-one-1 game with a pal if he/she has a decent connection maybe. Play around with it and see...

    Dismissed, soldier!

Actually I prefer to play a medic - as long as the LTs are doing their job in dispensing ammo. I really dislike being wounded and hobbled until I'm dead or a medic helps out.

And I prefer to play on the Axis side. The Allied uniforms are just easier to spot since the backgrounds can be sort of dark at times (yes, I've adjusted my lighting).

Major Matt, I tried your server but couldn't find it. Is it always up? What's the server name?

    Original Question

There needs to be a way to rapidly list sort 1.32 servers from 1.33 servers.

Otherwise I spend 10-20 minutes trying to find a 1.32 server to play on. Can

you add a column to the server list which contains the RtCW version number?

    Thanks.

p.s. did Activision blindside you guys on this 1.33 release or what?

    Hi Gobble Gobble,

I'm sorry, but we do not access nor the permission to change the code in that

regard. We only published the game, the people that can actually make any

changes are Id and possibly Activision.

    Thanks for your interest!

It's up 24/7, it was out last night because of an internet outage. The server now has those new 1.3.3 maps on it, although running 1.3.2, oh, the maps are rocket, damned, keep, and chateau.
