Quicktime 6 and how it just links everything to websites

It annoys me very much. I mean, if I wanted to view quicktime movies on the web, I would use a browser. However, when I use QT6, I just want to watch everything in the player for convienance. To quickly select a movie from a list and just watch it would be great. But why does Apple have to link everything, mostly everything, to the web?

EndRant.

Sorry, an example would be, say I launch QT and click "movies" and see, uh, the Spiderman trailer displayed. I click it and it launches a web browser so I can then watch it there. I would much rather have it just play directly within Quicktime Player.

I guess that this is a way from cmpanies to not steal their trailers. Most of the trailers not all can't be saved on your hard disk(by clicking download link on explorer.Even downloading the whole site didn't work for me!!!).If a trailer is otptted straight in to the quictime player then there's nothing that companies can do to prevent you from saving it to disk. All you have to do is hit the save button...

    This is my opinion

I'm pretty sure there are ways to disable saving within QT Player. I think Kiosk mode does that. or maybe I'm completely off

I know the problem of which you speak. . . .

I once solved said problem by going into the browser (which I hate to admit is IE) preferences and going into File Helpers and choosing MPEG, double-clicking and choosing play from program or some such . . . (now I can't do it anymore . . .not because of QT6 but just 5.04 . . . but I think its just cause I haven't tried too hard)

What you can do, as someone, I think said, Just hold your mouse down on the link and download to disk then open the player and watch it com ca....c'est bon, n'est pas?

I also find it annoying that one is always expected to watch movies from within a browser window. There is a solution, however. I always do this when I go into the Apple Store in Palo Alto and want to watch movie trailers full screen on their Cinema HD displays.

When you get to a page with a QT movie on it view the html source. Hit Command-F and do a search for "embed". You will be shown an html tag with this name. Look for the "src" attribute of the "embed" tag and copy its contents to the clipboard (the url is usually pretty long and contains a lot of gobbledygook).

Open up QuickTime player and hit Command-U to open a URL, then hit Command-V to paste the URL. Now you can watch the videos full screen!

Here is a sample "embed" tag. Try it!

    <EMBED WIDTH="480" HEIGHT="288" CONTROLLER="true" TARGET="myself" SRC="http://a772.g.akamai.net/5/772/51/83415b58578a25/1a1a1aaa2198c627970773d80669d84574a8d80d3cb12453c0 2589f25382f668c9329e0375e8177dec64930069d746b82195 0e6ddf44b4239509/minority_report-tlr3i_480.mov" BGCOLOR="#000000" BORDER="0" PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/indext.html"></EMBED>
