Geez..don't you two get it? He has pirated copies of software and doesn't want anyone to know...though the topic and subsequent question does show him to be the true idiot that he is!
Y'know, with a little creativity, I'm sure he could freestyle something that sounded vaguely plausible.
Like, "...My 3 year old brother deleted my Quicktime pro serial, and I had a project due the next day so i used a salty sea-dog serial... lies lies etc etc"
I personally don't care my Mac has a serial number, but I despise everything it is used for. Only the operating system should have access to it. I have never had a problem borrowing software from someone else, though technically not legal, I used the programs only for that specific project. Also, If I buy a program, I will install it on every one of my computers. No, no exceptions. I buy software for $$hundreds$$, I install software on MY computer(S). I will not but a second copy of the same expensive program to do the same thing.
[/Grudge]
No program I own needs to know that kind information about me, so YES! make a utility to hide the serial number.
I personally don't care my Mac has a serial number, but I despise everything it is used for.

You despise it? Can you name some programs that use the computer's serial number for registration?
i know how to hide your serial number. send it back to apple and it might come back with serial number erased. when i received my powerbook back from a repair, the serial number no longer appears when i check it with "apple system profiler." so i sort of freaked and called applecare. they said i am o.k. without it showing up. does anyone know how to put it back on? i feel as my powerbook is going through an identity crisis.... i love it (him) with or without it...... "you are muy muy macho," i tell it... :-)
The way I see it, the only reason to have a serial number is to track the product. I don't like the idea of people I don't know keeping a record of me. (This whole "Big Brother" thing.) Intel Built unique serial numbers into their processors, that can be tracked by web pages and other programs. "But you can turn those off!" some would say. And true, you do have an option, but you can't *Really* turn off a part of the main processor, you can only ignore it.
And it will only get worse! Weeeee!!....

EDIT- Oh yea, I forgot;

Why forget it? If someone can help you then they should. It really doesn't matter what we people here think. If you really need it hidden then if possible you should find out.
of cource if i will find here people that are ready to share their knowledge..i will be very thankfull
..but,you know,i wrote my last message after that what i see-people was playing a judge or saints here, but they just forgot that they broke the law every few days..maybe not in computer life, maybe in very very small things,..im sure about it.We are all just people.
And i didnt talk about something illegal..i was just asking how i can prevent that other people can see that what is my privat and own.is it illegal?
You know whats funny ? Funny is that if i will post here message that i have a tool to do it how many downloads will i get in one week? What do you think?

I say lock up this thread...lock it right now.
Geez..don't you two get it?

Oh, I "got it" just from looking at the title of the thread.
I was just wondering if he could give any legitimate reason for wanting to do this.
Like, "...My 3 year old brother deleted my Quicktime pro serial, and I had a project due the next day so i used a salty sea-dog serial... lies lies etc etc"
It's not that hard...

I don't know of *any* software that use it.

privacy is a legit concern and should be a more fully protected right.
