I always get s message that my mailboxes are locked, do i want to open them anyway. i assume this is a problem with mail? i hope this is fixed in Jaguar

i never got that message until today. but it only happens with my verizon account that i access thru Mail, and not with the other mac.com accounts i have. it says it has been locked by (null) host and that i can continue as "read only" or else i will damage the contents of the mailbox.

i'm not sure what it exactly says so i'll get back with you tomorrow and let you know. it happens just about every morning when i start up, so i'll write down exactly what it says
did you notice that your error message happens all the time or only after something happens, like a kernel panic or something? my computer was acting VERY weird last night and i shut it down (instead of putting it to sleep). but when i started it up, it mysteriously booted into OS 9 instead of X, so i had to reboot into X. when i did, the clock had the wrong time and i got the mail error message. so i adjusted the clock, and then i went into the preferences and enabled SMTP authentication for the mailbox. i have no idea what that does or means, but i stopped getting the mail error message. now i dont know if it was a direct result of what i did, or just dumb luck.
The mailbox on /Library/Mail/Mailboxes/eBay is currently locked by burningwheel on host local host. If you open a mailbox that's already in use, you may damage its contents.
then i have 3 options:
Open read only
Quit
Open anyway
i always choose 'Open anyway' and haven't had any problems so far
i can't put my machine to sleep anymore because if i do, it might not wake up. I've had this happen twice

it is a problem with permissions. I have said go ahead and open it and no problems
