Apple ships some iPhone Bluetooth headsets

Apple Inc. this week began shipping its long-awaited wireless Bluetooth headset that was designed to be paired alongside iPhone, according to several reader reports.

The $129 add-on turned up at several Apple retail stores earlier this week, all of which appear to have sold out of their initial inventory. Several stores contacted by AppleInsider said they expect additional shipments to arrive in the coming days.

Each Apple Bluetooth headset comes with the iPhone Duo Dock (for charging the iPhone and headset simultaneously), as well as a USB travel cord.

The headset itself is said to contain a MagSafe adapter on the far end that magnetically secures the device to the Duo Dock or travel cord. When both the iPhone and headset are connected to the Duo Dock, the iPhone will display charge levels of both the iPhone battery and the headset battery on its touch screen.

Also included with the Apple Bluetooth headset are earpads to help fit the accessory to various ear sizes. The headset, however, does not function as a wireless earphone under the iPhone's iPod mode.

    Towel-Curtain.

    Klassy

Sure is one good looking earbud though, and for once Apple includes all the bits and pieces...

The Apple Bluetooth earpiece is a most un-Apple-ish design. I can't believe John Ive settled on this plain, boring piece of plastic. Was he completely unaware of what else is available in the marketplace?

Are u kidding? This piece fits the apple design philosophy perfectly. Simple and sleek, it is a beautiful compliment to the iPhone itself.

It's simple, but it is unattractive, which does not fit the Apple design philosophy. Take a look around.

Yes, but it looks almost like a clone of the original iPod earbuds. Whether you like or hate those earbuds, they are an Apple icon.

Contrary to the report, there are no earpads to adjust to various ear sizes. I don't know where they got that idea from. It just comes with the foamies that shipped with iPod headphones prior the the redesigned ones. Also, the sound quality is quite atrocious. I'll be returning mine today. It has a constant hiss, and rattles at even middle volume. It's probably isolated, but considering I went through 3 defective iPhones before finally getting one of acceptable quality, I'm really unimpressed with Apple's QA right now.

Also, it's aluminum like the black iPod nano, not plastic. Aren't these guys supposed to be journalists?
