Apple's iChat AV is the MacOS X AIM client. It is bundled with every new Mac and every new version of MacOS X.
yes....i know that, but my gf's computer has vista and aim wont let us webcam when i use ichat. i was wondering if there were any other programs we both could use for us to webcam with each other. i looked up skype, but dont you have to pay for it and isnt it about $30 a year? anything free?

Not to do what you want to, no. It's completely free for a one-on-one video chat, as well as many other things. Now, if you want to call a phone line (SkypeOut), get a number (SkypeIn), get voicemail, etc., that costs money.
