<a href="http://www.thinksecret.com"; target="_blank">www.thinksecret.com</a> has a story about a $100 fee for "Dot Mac" services. They spin the story towards a "pay only " setup and not a "pay for extra services" kind of deal.
For $100 a year they better host my domain name, offer me Pro email services, and web stats, and an iDisk. Plus some more juicy stuff that I don't yet know about.
Maybe $100 off my next mac purchase also.

With that kind of thought process, I am thinking you may be the real John Rubinstein.
I just wish they'd come out with a credit card that had Apple rewards.... I'd upgrade every year.
Anyone care to venture a gues on any new iApp services? Or is that Dot App services.
I would guess they will mimic .Net but in a not so Ghengis Khan approach.

What would be better then Steve going in depth about all the cool .Mac stuff they are going to offer and all of use expecting it to be $100/year and him say: "you can have all of this for FREE!". Talk about a "Switch" strategy!
Same with PM upgrages. I think they are coming at MWNY.
*not all features are free, some may be not as great as one (1) user may think. Also, all services (free or expensive) may not be fast.

They used to. But it had no annual fee and everyone apparently paid their bills on time, so the program was ended after like 3 years. My parents got a free Color Stylewriter 2400 out of it.

Apple is allowing all current iTools members to join .Mac for $50 for the first year...then $100 after that.
THEY WILL NOT BE GETTING MY MONEY!! This will the the biggest Apple flop since eWorld. I use iTools all the time, but why should I pay for something that is free now? There are many other 'iDisk' like services available and I have other email. For $100, what more do I get...virus protection?

It's people who AREN'T making money off their iTools email who are screwed.
I looks like it is sporting a new look too. It looks like Apple is trying to be a service provider of sorts. Wall Street will like it and it does seem to include some interesting features. But I don't have any use for them right now (backups, Virus...real problem).
Im pissed that Apple has yanked the free iTools. They could even scaled it back, but to make it pay only!!
After all, there is even a key board shortcut for iDisk. So, what happens if I dont give Apple my money? Do I get an error message?
They should have kept a free version (even scaled back) available w/OSX. iTools (iDisk) had become a really cool feature of the Mac. It was something I would show to PC folks...and when they heard it was free, they were impressed. Oh well.
