Why do they always have to announce things during the middle of the night for me, on a weeknight? Can't the RDF fix that somehow?

The evidence is overwhelming and irrefutable so I present to you:

Exhibit A: No redesigned 17" iMac.

Exhibit B: The Mac mini has not been updated in almost a year.

Exhibit C: Gaming is making a major comeback to the Mac

Apple has three options and they are:
    1. Update the Mac mini specs to support Santa Rosa tech keeping the same prices, but they will still have to deal with:
      • Lost 17" iMac sales ($999 - $1199).

      • Gamers not buying the Mac mini because it's not upgradable, which gamers "need", especially when it comes to the graphics card.

    2. Update the Mac mini and introduce a headless Mac to replace the 17" iMac, but the problem here is the specs will be so close it will affect Apple's profit margin due to the added expense associated with producing the two lines, as well as, the sales of one cannibalizing the sales of the other.

    3. Redesign the Mac mini so it is upgradable, but doing this will change its form so much Apple is better off just discontinuing the Mac mini and introducing a new model.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I rest my case.

Oooh. Airport Extreme 802.11n ... worky nice with my 802.11n-enabled MacBookBlack2.0ghz getting about 70mbit/sec (mostly downstream from a wired iMac) which seems typical for 802.11n according to Wikipedia. Well, at least 3 times faster than 802.11g! and the AirportExtreme is operating in 802.11n/b/g mixed mode... I think I might want one for home.

    OMG Tuesday OMG

    ARHGHGHGHGHHG

Hurry up and release the new iMacs so I can buy one for my dad!!! ARHGHGHG

Personally, I don't think that the Mini is dead at all. I think it is going to be re-branded as something else. It is the perfect form factor and power usage for a Home-based server. This is going to be even more important as we come into Leopard.

The Mac Mini is dead. Long Live the iServe.

A pre-event prediction from over at Ars, by way of gizmondo.

I hope they are right. That would be a nice boost to the Mac lineup.
