Downloaded it, and the new features are cool. But still no support for my QUE firewire burner 32x10x40. This drive was listed on the iTunes 2.0 approved list, so I bought it and it didn't work. Now, instead of fixing the problem, they just removed it from the list. Thanks.
<strong>did this happen to any one else itunes and the rest of my system`s sounds are like 25% louder then before...</strong><hr></blockquote>

It might be the Sound Check feature, but don't ask me why or how.
Here's another odd detail: when I scroll up and down my browser columns slowly enough, the scroll bar seems to "bounce" a little when it moves up or down a line. It might be my eyes playing tricks on me.
iTunes 3 is absolutely weak, no two ways about it.
Like it was said, how is this a +1 version jump?
They added smart playlists (never had a problem making my own, I don't need a computer to tell me what I like) and ratings. Ratings are ridiculous who is going to go through over 1,000 songs and rate each and better yet......why would you?

It does boast a lot fo improvements and refinements, however subtle. And let'snot forget that you don't have to pay for it, so they can call it "iTunes Superduperific 3000" for all it matters.
Yes, there are indeed a number of enhancements to iTunes 3 that you probably wouldn't notice at first.
* redesigned preferences with toolbar
* properly switches to graphite
* smart playlists
* rating system
* play count tracker
* improved song info window (going to next and previous don't close and reopen the window)
* opengl-driven visualizer (MUCH faster)
* opaque window-resizing
* updated interface to match Jag-wire
* Music folder organization
* lower CPU usage (YMMV) from Mach-O compilation
* "sound check" normalizer effect
* "join CD tracks" for ripping
* export library to xml
* export playlist to xml
* name autocompletion
and lastly
* new icons
There may be even more I haven't noticed yet! Now, I personally don't like the new icon. It doesn't match the rest of Aqua. So, I've make my own modified version that shifts the hue closer to Aqua and changes the notes from eighths to thirty-seconds. I'll post it for download later if anyone is interested.
I like ratings, but it feels like they're only partially implemented. I don't mind rating all my 1200 songs, as long as I don't do it at once. It's not like I have to rate a song before I play it. I do a few here and there. But what it needs is to delegate preference to higher rated songs. So that way songs I like get played more than songs I don't like. And then if I get sick of a song I can quickly knock down it's rating and skip to next, and not have to listen to it for a while.
Also, I have a feeling that Apple was just waiting around w/ QuickTime 6 for the licensing issues to be resolved, because there's no other real changes to QuickTime. But with iTunes, they wanted to get smart playlists and such out TODAY, and not knowing when they'd get AAC licenses, they only had a version w/o it so they wouldn't have any issues getting it out, and that they'll have a 3.1 (or sadly an iTunes Pro that requires a QuickTime Pro key or something) in another month.
Also, you can drop .mp4 files onto its icon and it'll play them as it should, which didn't work in iTunes 2 (you had to rename them to .aac yourself).
And, it automatically fills out artist names once you start typing them!
It is a much better product now, but I agree it hardly warrants a new version designation (2.1 or 2.5...whatever). It does play MP4, although it does not encode them [QT Pro feature...did not expect it], but I am glad it does play the files now. Funny, they did not mention this feature anywhere. The smart playlist is a neat feature, but it is a cosmetic one. The same with most of the other features. The under-the-cover features (less CPU, faster encoding, MP4, better visualizer, etc) are worth the free upgrade.

As if the number next to it really matters. Heh. Pathetic, there is so much you can complain about today and you decide to be upset because Apple calls their next FREE release of iTunes 3 instead of 2.1.
I have been watching CPU usage on TOP in the terminal window. It uses from around 15% to 35% of my CPU on a PowerBook G3 400 (firewire). It tends to bounce around 15% to 25% generally. Switching tracks (or moving to the next one) bumped it up to 35%, but I watched it for only like 5 mins. I was curious...what can I say?
<strong>UM...? I click use open GL option, and when I reopen the options, it is not selected any longer. what's up? anyone else see this issue?</strong><hr></blockquote>
me too.
i'm on a powerbook g4.
I think it only works with 16 meg or greater video cards or something.

I haven't had any problems so far. I didn't restart my computer though.</strong><hr></blockquote>
Well, I quit the app and restarted it. Now all is back to normal. Weird.
More advanced search and playlist creation - OK, but a whole new version number release?
This should have been 2.(x+1), but they made it (x+1).0 because the rest of the keynote was either lackluster or downright disappointing.

Question: I can't get the 'use OpenGL' checkbox to stay selected. Perhaps it depends on the level of hardware you have?
PBG4-500 with Rage 128 M (8 MB)
Is anyone seeing the OGL visuals with similar video hardware?

iTunes 3 uses significantly less processcing power (anything is significan't on 400mhz g3 imac) .
* horizontal scrollbar so you have more than the window's width of columns.
* contextual menus (mainly for the column headers)
* auto column resizing
* instant-on streaming (at least for broadband users)
* visualizer button indicates full-screen mode toggle
* more view/column options
* new feedback menu item

It might not be as much, but it still uses alot of my processor on my 500MHz iBook.
