I've had it for about a minute now. So far looks not bad. Wow, am I impressed? The interface is nonstandard, but polished. It's generally not the piece of crap its Classic predecessors were. And where's all the intrusive ish? Has Real reformed its ways??
Edit: The interface is still a bit awkward unfortunately. The traffic light buttons only activate one at a time. Maybe something they'll get fixed by final. Zooming rectangles abound.
I'd like to start off saying that before 5 minutes ago I hated Real even worse than windows media player (because it sucks ass!)
But now, though I hesitate to say it. The Realplayer beta is good. Actually good! I can't believe it. I am astounded. Excuse me. I have to go watch all my .rm anime that I have been ignoring since I stopped using OS 9 (When was that??? Sometime in 2000?)
Flame of Recca tonight :-)
Funny that I just bought Recca DVDs. Maybe I'll watch Record of the Lodoss Wars... never seen that before.
This realplayer seems to be good software. <img src="graemlins/surprised.gif" border="0" alt="[Surprised]" />
its not brilliant, but its pretty damn solid and it works.... thats enough to make me happy... i generally don't use real for anything, but i like at least the option having it so i can check out exposure.scifi.com and otherstuff....
after going without for 6 months, its certainly a pleasant surprise....
I WISH REAL WERE JUST A LITTLE FASTER! Anyway, this is a pretty nice product. Like it because now I can see all the real player stuff I wasn't able to before!
The best part is that they haven't had time to port all the crapware ads, promotional messages, and rings of blinking, obnoxious buttons. Hopefully it'll stay slim and trim as it is now, rather than "improve" with all the junk!
Incidentally, is it just me, or is this "RealOne" player pretty much just RealPlayer, and not at all RealJukebox?
It looks and acts exactly like RealOne for the PC (thank god Real calmed down the Ads dramatically with both versions). Real is still not my #1 choice for streaming, but it looks like we have no choice (for the Mac if the site does not offer QT) until Microsoft makes WMP better integrated with IE.
On my PC running WindowsXP, both QT and Real are choppy and slower compared to the speed, clarity and seamless integration of WMP (just like QT runs best on a Mac). Real likes to take over whenever it loads (and they talk about MS), and QT has really always been a bit buggy and slower to load on the PC.
There is an article in PC Magazine that shows image examples of WMP, QT, and Real technologies - and surprisingly enough Real was the clearest (though, I think PCMag suggests that WMP was best) with WMP right behind it and QT being the least clear (using MPEG4). Bizarre I know, but the truth is, they've all come a long way.
Its Tony Tiger Grrrrrrrreat. Fast and doesn´t behave like it really doesn´t want to be on my screen (like realplayer for 9). Love the simple interface but hate the WMP look.
It a great imporvement over the old version...what I really want to know though is why this was put in the MWNY forum when it doesn't even bear mention to it and not in the software thread like the other moderator had
Damn Administrators think they run the place and can do whatever they want

Live window resizing... on custom shaped and skinned windows while video is playing. Take that QuickTime player!
Everything on C|Net plays perfectly.

Hope it is as good as some say.

Take a lesson here Microsoft. Your player for OS X bites the big one.
