Ok so i was just talking to my brother on the phone and here's a situation i need help with, i tried my best because i have a macbook but help me out everyone.

ok so like 2 days ago he got a new macbook. white, 512mb, the usual. he downloaded a program called full tilt poker that i play all the time on my macbook. he said that sometimes when he's in the middle of a poker game, full tilt will just disconnect. i know that it is not a full tilt error because i'm playing a bunch and i dont get disconnected. so i thought that it had something to do with a networking configuration or something with his airport. he uses his macbook in a building where lots of people go to use the internet and he says that he watches and nobody else has trouble with getting on the internet. does anybody have any advise as to maybe a way to "juice up" airports signal strength or network speed?

thanks everyone.

Get him to run Software update; Apple resolved some bug that caused intermittent wifi access while on battery power.

Once I switched from no password protection to WPA, I started getting all kinds of signal drops (several times a day). I think that there is some kind of problem with Apple's WPA code, because a lot of other devices (PS3, xbox360, wii) use that same wireless router (Belkin) with no drops in service, while my AppleTV also has drops.

yeah just do software update, my parents macbook was experiencing problems with airport. the symptoms were, slow speed at short and long distances from the router, random disconnects. we dont have an airport wireless router, we use a belkin, and all other devices were working fine. so yeah just do the software update, and see if that helps.

I just received my new Macbook Pro but my old snow Airport Base Station is not working properly with it. Literally, I see full bars one second, and within 10 seconds, none. At these times the base station cannot be found and no connection can be established. Even during 4 bars, I cannot load web pages. I am typing this message using plugged-in ethernet (into the base station.)

I recall this happening briefly with my Powerbook but I think it essentially solved itself.

I have reset the base station (soft reset) and unplugged the cable modem, etc. but no luck. As I type this, the signal comes (4 bars) and goes (0 bars) every few seconds. I've restarted this computer a number of times, installed all software updates... nothing has solved the problem.

I am sitting 6 feet from the base station.

Any help would be appreciated. I'd rather not spring for an Extreme Base Station unless absolutely necessary.

    Thanks,

    Peter

Have you tried to change you airport channels, that sounds like there is interference on the line, maybe your neighbor is using same channel.

I changed from channel 1 to channel 11, and the same issue is happening. There are about 8 networks visible, so your point may still stand. It still flicks from 4 to 0 about every 5 seconds (nothing in between) but I'm surfing around, sending e-mail with big attachments - all fine.

Weird. I ordered an Aiport Extreme BS yesterday.

Related question: with a cable modem (Comcast) for my connection, will the new base station improve my speed at all over the 802.11b I have currently? (For ordinary surfing, watching streaming movies, etc.)
