You've been less than helpful. It is a somewhat technical question, and one that apple.com/ical does not answer. The reason I ask this is because I need a calendar to keep track of my schedules from the first day of classes to iCal's release date in September. Microsoft Entourage does the job, but certainly not as elegantly as iCal. Personally, I'm excited that a calendaring product as well-designed as iCal finally will come to the market. I have considered purchasing Market Circle's <a href="http://www.marketcircle.com/index.html"; target="_blank">Daylight</a>, but I have no need for a full-fledged CRM.
Entourage has a palm sync (well, had - they had posted it, and then they took it down again. Presumably it'll be back soon), and so does iCal. So you could at the least go that route if you have a palm.

I was thinking the same thing. I basically use my palm as my calendar and use the sync with outlook (I run a pc, for now) to backup what I have on my palm and so that I don't have to whip out my palm when I'm at the computer.
I believe the screenshots were taken at MWNY, as the gallery is part of a Macworld wrap up. They were probably just screen grabs from the computers on the floor sent to their iDisk or something... I doubt that anyone had iCal the same day it was announced, especially since no one outside of Apple seems to have access to it...
Also, one of the screenshots appears to have the screen resolution of one of the new 17" iMacs and the email addresses in the screenshots displaying the invite capability are of the "[email protected]" variety.
I got hold of beta versions of iCal and iSync; however, I was unable to toy around with them since 6C106 does not have support (ie. required frameworks) for them.
After looking at the screenshots, I saw something I hadn't noticed before, a To Do list. Maybe I just missed it, but that means that all I need is Memos and that replaces Palm Desktop (and then some). So what we need is an easy way to transfer our contacts/calendars/to dos/memos from our current PIMs, and we're set. An all Apple, very cool solution to syncing nirvana.
Also, know how they say MS gets it right on the second try? It seems with the iApps, Apple gets it right the second time.
Seems to me that iCal can only export to a WebDAV server from what I have seen. That is bad, I wish they could do some HTML because it would be useful for my mommy! <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />
This app alone does not fit the "PIM" bill, but together with Address Book, Mail, and iChat, it looks like one killer PIM combo. One minor setback for Address Book is that I don't have pictures for all of my contacts. Damn. And it looks so cool to have such!

Well, having looked at iCal at thinksecret it looks really great, and with iSync you can sync it with your palm - BUT, will syncing only work with bluetooth? That would mean, for making iCal really useful you would have to spend money for the bluetooth adapter and for a bluetooth-card to your palm. Pretty expensive.... and no point in using iCal if you are using a palm as well, why have two calendars when you can have one? any ideas?
oh, an other thing that I hope that not make it to iCal. in iTunes, if you press the red button, your window disappears but the programme is still running. in iPhoto, pressing the red closes the programme. Where is the consistency? I heard that the dock-icon displays current date, fine, but not if it forces you to have a calendar-window open...

Loved the iCal feature at Think Secret. I've really enjoyed Nick's extensive software coverage over the last year and a half.
