Gimp on X?

Unix apps are coming over to the Mac X.

Does 'Gimp' work on 'X' natively?

Or do you need to install another Linux for PPC OS to get you going?

Saw Gimp on X86 Linux a few years ago. It looked okay...

Opinions?

I don't think there's a native version for OS X, I think you have to install fink or something to get the X11 windowing system, and get Gimp for that. I could be completely wrong. Someone should know about this stuff... help?

    Check this pdf out:

It tells you how to install xdarwin, fink, WindowMaker, and GIMP.

All you need is XDarwin. Once you have The GIMP? installed just run XDarwin rootless and type gimp into the logon. Voila. Havent used it much & I probably wont since I will have PS 7 tomorrow.

IMO Gimp is not worth the trouble. You're better off just paying the small price for Graphic Converter for OS X.

Mr. phd, maybe some people want to experiment with UNIX, and installing the GIMP is a good way to try it out. Sure, GraphicConverter is there, along with some other apps, but maybe people just want to get there feet wet in UNIX.

GIMP is fairly horrible, although a good foot wetter I suppose.

Amazing, first time Scott doesn't troll I agree with what he said: if it's cheap graphic utilities you're after, go with GC. If it's expensive graphic apps you're after, Photoshop is the way, no doubt.

There was talk of a cocoa front-end for the GIMP but it disappeared ... shame.
