Apple to buy Adobe!?

A co-worker of mine mentioned this today and said he read it in some forum...I can't find it. But even more intriguing was that supposedly on Sep 10th, Phil Shiller will be giving the keynote at Seybold with a 'surprise' guest from Paris at the same time with a BIG announcement.

This guy is usually pretty good with the intel, but I can't find any evidence to the contrary.

Have you heard anything?

...and I forgot to mention... he said that of the SIX BILLION dollars Apple has in reserves, three billion of it was recently spent!

That's interesting. There's another thread here about Apple spending some cash. Adobe's stock is pretty low. However...I don't think Apple could get away with buying an Adobe and cancelling Windows versions.

I would be highly skeptical in any case. I'll believe it when I see it. Having said that, I can see given their other Pro apps why they would be interested in large chunks of Adobe's product offerings.

Why not? They don't have a version of FCP for Windows and video pros swear by it. If Apple were to purchase Adobe and kill off Windows apps it would TRULY show that the Mac is the premiere realm for content creators and get them to 'switch' as Apple is pushing so hard for.

It would make more sense to make the Adobe products run at a lower speed, maybe with less options on the windows systems. They could really jazz the mac versions up too, so that if you want the program its only logical to have a Macintosh.

Not only that, but it would show that the Mac is the ONLY realm for content creators.

    Adobe's Market Cap: US$5.9 Billion

    Apple's Market Cap: US$5.1 Billion

There is no way this would be possible.

Yes, I know, market cap isn't everything, but still, this isn't like snapping up Nothing Real or eMagic with some change found in the couch.

On a scale of 1 ---&gt; ass, I rate this rumor:

    Ass.

They should by Adobe AND Macromedia, then there would be no where to go. <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

Technically, it can be done. Small companies have swallowed up larger companies before, but it is very rare. It would require a huge chunk of Apple's 4B+ cash reserves, of which the interest from it has been keeping Apple in the black, serious stock dilution, and possibly debt; all for a company who's growth prospects are being questioned and for a product market that for the most part is so last decade.

IMO. Apple should just go buy Photoshop and After Effects off from Adobe

Other Adobe products aren't that great anyway
