Digidesign ProTools 6.0

I'm surprised that digidesign has been so tight-lipped about their forthcoming major upgrade to the industry-stanard audio editing, mixing, master software.

It's almost here though, and yes, with OS X compatability.

ProTools 6 will be released by the end of this year carrying a wealth of new features that will be worthy of a paid upgrade (including X native).

An interesting note to LE users, ProTools 6 is opening up to 32 channels as oposed to the current 24. People are really going to love v6.0 and any audio nuts here have a right to be really pumped for this update.

What about a new version Pro Tools Free?

I am getting so cheap these days

Didnt bother to ask about protools free.

I imagine that protools 6 free wont be far behind the release of ProTools 6. Its mostly a matter of stripping features from the normal version.

I hope it will support the Digi 001

    Why are you being sarcastic?

    a) Digi 001 is a great system for the money

    b) Digi 001 will be supported in ProTools 6

Im trying to understand what your attempting to get accross with the sarcastic comment?

    Wow, lighten up geek.

I wasnt being sarcastic at all, I honestly was wondering if it supports Digi 001.

    Now...hmmm.....**** off

Imagine that, a couple of newbies flaming each other over a misunderstanding.

Oh, and I believe about ProTools 6 when I see it. Not that I don't think it will EVER come out, just that I'd be surprised if it came as soon as people are saying.

The developers were saying 4-6 six months. So at this point it seems it could be as early as october or as late as december (from the last time i spoke with them)

The long wait was only partially there fault. 10.2 is bringing the OS up to a point in which digidesign can finally work with. digi and apple have been working for over a year on ProTools 6. I for one, am extremely excited for ive heard such great things about it.

As for lightening up, i was just trying to figure out what he meant with the after his comment. Like, did he mean he doesnt think PT6 would support 001, or he doesnt care if it supports it. Now that hes explained himself, i understand. No lightening up required .

And no im not a newb, i lost my registration on my old name and made a new one.

I just bought an audiomedia card and Protools LE (which is only an incredible 50.00$ . . yes... you saw it... its only FIFTY DOLLARS!!!!) These have been the best two purchases I have made in the last year. (The Audiomedia card was less than 200.00$ on Ebay!!!)

I really hope: 1). THat since I just bought PT Le an upgrade will be cheap.

    and

    2) that the audiomedia card will work with PTs 6 Le

any ideas or thoughts about this?

Well im positive your card will be supported in PT 6. As for an upgrade, in a recent email with a PR spokesperson said that they have not worked out an upgrade path as of yet. I've only been on the protools boat since v5.0. I remember the update to 5.1 was something like $50. That was a minor update though. I have no idea what to expect with a major upgrade like this.

All i have to say is that they better keep the key-commands the same . Ive become too quick with the current set to give it up.

Have to thank marco for the digi info.

Logic+logic control+interface will give you dramatically more functionality and much, much higher quality for the same price. The 002 is just about the worst purchase a producer could possible make.

Um. I do music production. For mixing editing and mastering (not so much heavy weight midi) protools laughs at the competition. No doubt the logic setup you described is a good deal, but im serious about my music and want the best tools. Digidesign is like apple. Higher quality, higher prices. You have to pay a premium, but as i said its worth it. Ive used logic, ive used cubase, ive used MOTU's, ive used protools.

If you think youll be better off with logic, be my guest. Ill be over here being twice efficent and churning out great sounding stuff.

p.s. the studio i work for just upgraded to HD !!!! 192khz... drooollllll

    Logic is Apple.

Pro-Tools is best if you aren't doing production work.

The 002 really is a horrible purchase. You are the first person I've run into that thinks otherwise. Have you looked at how limited that thing is?

PS Pro-Tools is not best for mastering. As a buddy of mine who does mastering puts it:

Most mastering facilities actually process tracks with analog mixers and analog compressor/limiter and eq with all tracks rolled off to a master DAT. however when cd's get assempled the most popular programs are masterlist from Digidesign, samplitude, and sonic solutions. Cool edit pro is pretty popular too.

You can not possibly be in digital recording if this is the mindset you are in. You are the first person IVE run into that thinks digi002 is a bad purchase. Of course i deal with a different set of musicians / engineers/ producers everyday who are the targets for this product. If your affiliates agree with you on your point about the 002, they are not very educated people as far as music hardware goes. Its expensive, yeah. Get over it. Im not saying this is the best product ever, im saying that they nailed alot of great points with it, more so than any other company.. and you wont accept that. oh well. im done arguing over this
