iPod - Live updating?

Hey,

Something I've noticed about my iPod and wanted to make sure:

When I configure a smart playlist, lets say "songs I haven't heard for a week" -

If I use this smart playlist on my iPod and listen to one of the songs, it would still be there on the device till after I sync it again with iTunes.

Is this how it is meant to be?

Ideally, the smart playlists would update while working via the device...

    Ok, I'll bite.

Awhile back I had smart lists showing songs that had zero playcounts. As I played the songs on my nano they would drop off this playlist when they finished. But this went away with the last nano firmware upgrade. Now the smart lists function as simple playlists on the nano. They update to the latest version when you sync to iTunes. Otherwise the playlists do not change.

I too think that it used to work "live" through the Nano and stopped doing so... anyone has something concrete to explain to us?
