What FTP apps are you guys using ?

I have tried Transmait-X and Fetch-X both are slower than in OS9.

Is this an OSX problem ?

I use ftp from the terminal. I find it to be very responsive.

As far as GUI FTP programs, I have no idea what's good.

I use Transmit as well. I don't know if it's much slower than on 9, but it's definitely much slower than whatever I'm using on Windows.

Hmm... all this time I thought it was Transmit. Maybe it is OSX.

    RBrowser. Speed is fine.

Looking forward to FTP broswing and access in the Jaguar Finder.

OS X 10.2 is supposed to include FTP client support in the Finder. So you'd presumably use "Connect to Server..." and the server would show up on the desktop.

I heard that OSX.2 will feature an ftp client... anybody have the scoop on that? There's nothing I could see on Think Secret or Apple about it...

Transmit is driving me nuts: the last few bytes take longer to send than the preceeding kilobytes! So annoying!!

Yep - and I am really looking forward to that! It lists this in the additional features Jaguar page on Apple's site.

It's all these little things you never really hear about that are gonna make Jaguar shine!

That nju FTP client in Jaguar is called "Finder", simple as, you mount FTP-servers as volumes in the finder. Multithreaded and everything

Exactly. In Jaguar, you do Connect To Server, and then just type in <a href="ftp://www.myftpserver.com."; target="_blank">ftp://www.myftpserver.com.</a>; It asks for your name and password and bam it's on your desktop. Same goes for SMB and NFS, not to mention AFP of course. And it's fast, too... Jaguar seems to have that effect on things. I found Fetch X in Jaguar to be very quick.

Also, the Finder is AppleScript-able and the whole System is.... so yeah, this would kick-it high adrenalin! <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

    Secure FTP is pretty cool that is what I use. It doesn't have much as far as options but it gets the job done. I can't remember exactly where I downloaded it from. <a href="http://secureftp.glubtech.com/"; target="_blank">http://secureftp.glubtech.com/</a>;

You could use <a href="ftp://username:"; target="_blank">ftp://username:</a>; [email protected]: portnumber/ and forego the user/pass prompt.

I wonder if they wil include AFS support too.

I got sick of the flakey GUI ftp clients so I turned to the Terminal and ncftp. I'm using 3.1.3 of ncftp and its awesome! I haven't looked back since I switched, it's always stables, fast, and I never have any connection problems.

I have found all internet interactions as well as LAN traffic to be greatly improved after the last networking update.

I've heard that finder ftp access may be broken in 10.2. Any more info on this from you "early adopters?"

I'd say it's broken. It brings down my system faster than an MS app. Sometimes it works great, but for some reason, every-once-in-a-while, it'll bring the system to a grinding halt. It's so bad, the only way to get out of it is to reboot. This happens if you disconnect from a network and forget to unmount the volume. It's ugly. But when it works, it's great. (BTW, this is on 6c115, aka GM)
