Okay you guys need to be rained in. This expo could be utterly awsome or it will be another MWNY 01. Unfortunately the way things are going I see a another repeat of MWNY01 coming. Dont get me wrong, I will be the first person to praise the heavens if Apple comes out with a PowermacG5. But I really just do NOT see that happening. Just becuase Apple is hyping this more than ushualy dosnt meen that we are going to see G5 iMacs.

    My Predictions:

    Powermac G4 1.2-1.4Ghz DDR

iMac LCD G4/Most likely G3 pushing or meeting 1Ghz

It will still be a great expo but im forseeing that there will be a lot of dissapointment around here when Apple dose not prove your unsubstantiated rumors true.

The only mistake us hardcore Mac Technonerds are doing is not buying the most Apple stock we can.

If they do deliver what we say they will not deliver...We are...losing O.C. (opportunity cost)

Big Time...It is a a Big Gamble. But to throw 5K in stock or more and wait 8 months and make a killing...We are talking about Apple Computer,Inc.

and Steve Jobs, plus the Team. Not Compaq.Apple creates incredible

technology.ie firewire,O/S -X etc..This is Big Time!!! They do research on these and other boards. They listen.Even, Sony watches Apple. They licensed Apple Technology ,not lame ass

    MicroSoft Technology.See the Big Picture?

I want phatty G5s as much as the next person, but if they release a 1.4ghz G4 powermac with DDR, we're talking about something that is probably more than twice as fast as the 833 (Carmack's mentions of memory bandwidth issues are ringing in my head). Likewise, a 1.2ghz dual G4 with DDR would be damn fast. I would be satisfied if that were the case, although I think it would fall below the level of hype going around.

I doubt the Apollo can go much beyond 1Ghz, certainly not 1.4, and it's doubtful that it will use a different bus with DDR. And the G3 just doesn't go up to 1Ghz right now - maybe 800Mhz at best.

Has anyone thought that maybe Apple might release an iphone at this MWSF? If so, maybe it connects through your airport system. A device like this would be useful in that it would cut long distance phone costs. The only drawback to this is that you could only talk to other mac users that had the airport system.

Just a thought (and probably a stupid one now that I think about it).

Which all sorta points to a G5 - since there really isn't much hype-value in getting a belated Apollo slightly beyond 1Ghz, a year and a half behind Intel, which is already at 2.2!

Besides ... claiming you'll "blow" people away with increasing clock speed ~15%, virtually guarantees Steve a hard lesson in tomato-dodging: something he almost experienced first-hand at MWNY, and I doubt very much he cares to go thru that again, especially at triple the intensity thanks to Apple's recent fuel-on-the-fire hype-tactics.

Maybe if the hype was kept down, he would've gotten a nicely warm "well, at last we've done it - better late than never" applause by such an announcement ... but it's too late for that now, so if it ain't G5's, it better be the cure for cancer, because Apple's stock is gonna need radiation therapy otherwise.

So I hope Steve knows what he's getting himself into - and given his hard lesson at MWNY, I think he does: which is why I now think it's likely, we'll see G5's.

The numbers I had in my prediction where what I though would be the max the the G4 could go. either it would top out at 1.2, or 1.4. Most likely it would be 1.2.

[quote]Funny, because I think that even this is way too optimistic, and you're pitching this as the "reasonable" prediction.

Im trying to show what I think the maximum we could see from MWSF02. Like many of you im an optimist, but im not going to fling out insane 'G5 in iMac' predictions. Im trying to remain optimistic but at least a little reasonable.

Renan you post was pretty damn incoherent. But I will try to respond.

Okay so your saying that becuase some idiot is jerking the Registers and MOSR's chain that we should throw in 5k into Apples stock on the assumption that G5's will come and save the day? And of course since this is Apple computer, and they are the wiz-kids this is a given right? What you are saying is not a gamble, its stockmarket suicide.

Yes Apple dose create incredible technology but they cant just pull something out there ass on a whim. Sure they probably do research on these boards, but doing reserch and seeing what the people want is a long way from actually producing a product.

Im not quite seeing how Sony fits into all this. But are you saying that becuase the 'all mighty' Sony waches and licenses Apple technology that you are any closer to having a G5 on your desk? And no im not sure I see the big picture here. Though I like how you snuck in that Microsoft bash. : )

i think we are all realists---even the out of control optimists....i would love G5 Power Macs and everything else i see mentioned here.....but if they power up the G4 to 1.2 or 1.4, offer Dual G4 at 1.2....that would be a smoking machine till the G5 comes out in spring or summer.....and if i can get an iMac or cube or something else with a super drive for 2000 or less, i would be happy with that too...the iMac doesn't even have to be G4 if a fast G3 can run a super drive.....g

i think we all have a wide range of what we "think" we'll see (low end), what we think we "might" see (middle hopeful), what we "hope" we seen (mild to moderate optimism) and, finally, what we "dream" we'll see (wild off the deep end speculation---like G5 iMacs)....

I agree with you. I think that a 1.2 or possibly a 1.4 GHZ ddr Powermac would be awsome. And I certainly wouldnt mind having one on my desk. I just think are expecting to much to soon. Will we see a G5? Certainly, but not at MWSF.

I don't know about G5s etc. but I'm intrigued by the possibility of of a new consumer dohicky to match iMovie (and iPhoto?) just as iPod matches to iTunes.

What I'd like to see is a digital video camera that can take decent stills. It would have moderate specs but a great UI and look cool of course.

There could be a matching still camera at a much lower price point as well.

I cant get myself to be excited by an Apple Camera or camera type device. The competition in that segment is fierce and encompasses every level of consumer there is, from $100 device to multi-thousand dollar professional gear. Apple did it once, back when the competition was insignificant. Unless they come out with something that redefines the industry, I dont see them introducing a simple camera.

Well you figure some of their iDevices will bascially be what they currently sell in their stores.

    camera

    PDA

    phone

portable dvd player (plays QT and imovies)

idock (not sure of it's use other than to dock)

    tivo type tv unit

What other devices could they make? I don't think there are that many to chose from. What do you figure, 4-6 devices they will release?

who needs this when you can get a dvd iBook??

I can't see them releasing a whole whack of consumer thingies all at once. Even if they were all ready, releasing one every week or two increases the hype and free advertising.

The MP3 market looks alot like the digital camera market. Also, Apple aims these things at well-heeled consumers willing to pay for superior design. In any market where most designs suck or are at best me-too, Apple has an opportunity. Whatever they introduce will integrate tightly with their consumer iApps.

The tight control of hardware and software has always hurt Apple in the business market but it's a nearly unique and large advantage in the consumer space. I'm very glad Apple has apparenly decided to take advantage of this fact.

On a more computerish note: I'm still laying my bets on a Tablet. LCDs are now cheap enough, hard drives small enough, and Sahara G3s low power enough for Apple to pop out a terrific tablet. If you haven't noticed...the Aqua UI is much less menu driven and much more icon based: it a much better UI for a pen interface than OS8/9 ever was.

Another bet: how likely are we to see wireless cards in practically everything? Even base machines. I say quite likely; especially if the tablet materializes.

    Über TiBook:

    - 1600 x 1200

    - Superdrive

    - 1 Ghz G4

    - Now that would blow my mind.

Mine too though I'm not sure about 1600x1200 on a 15.2" screen. I've seen it on PCs and its pretty bad. I just need a little bit more resolution.
