noisy optical drive

I have the latest 15" MBP revision and notice every time I start up or wake the machine the optical drive makes a loud (and annoying) whirring noise. My 15" Alu PB didn't make any sound. Is this typical of the newer machines?

    Is there a disk in the drive?

    Yeah, if there's a disc in the drive, it usually spins up considerably. This only really happens to me with data CD's and DVD's. I don't know why, though.

    Why don't you get some earplugs. I find that usually helps.
