    Chimera 0.5 kicks major ass!

In fact, Chimera 0.5 is so good I might have to take a break from dowloading the nightly builds like an addict. I can't even imagine how good this browser is going to be at version 1.0.

Not really. The post that you linked was for the nightly build, this is for the actual release.

EmAn is right. That thread was about the nightly build pre-0.5.

This thread is about the *official* version 0.5 build.

Anyhoo, this ain't bad. I still can't use it full-time because of is painfully crippled text navigation and input, but at least it renders fast.

edit: Well, it's as crash-happy as ever. This time Chimera went for a whole three minutes without a crash! It must be a new record!

What are you doing when it crashes? It has never crashed on me.

Typing is much better. It now actually keeps up with me.

I guess I must be visiting only sites with simple HTML and tame Java code. Chimera (nighly builds) hasn't crashed on me in weeks. And it is my default browser, which I use 99 percent of the time.

I am truly delighted with Chimera's progress!

while browsing through the following sites, Chimera crashes on me a good perecentage of the time.

    <a href="http://www.teamwarfare.com"; target="_blank">www.teamwarfare.com</a>

    <a href="http://www.espn.com"; target="_blank">www.espn.com</a>

also of note, i can force a color bb by trying to access the top-down menu's on the teamwarfare site.

We have totally ditched IE on our home iMac and the same for me on my iBook. I still really like the way OW looks but I use Chimera more because it opens more and seems to be faster.

    Oh well.

I guess I could browse with a dozen windows instead of tabs, but I don't know if that would make it any more stable.

I don't know, but Chimera rarely crashes for me. It's just as stable as IE.

The only problem I have with this version is that scrolling seems a drop slower than .4.

Currently i have ten tabs open, and honestly, i've only had chimera crash once on me in two weeks.

Some of the rendering, specifically on primary java pages, and some flash pages don't load up quite right, or moving images [movies/videos/flash] don't cache or stay loaded on the pages when switching between tabs and coming back to them.

but overall, the loading is somewhat quick, and page loading is also quick.

I like the pop-up blocking, but I would like for it to have a better way of pop-up blocking, instead of just killing ALL pop-ups. Since some sites I visit I need the pop-ups to show, for the site to load correctly.

You can now implement the history feature, by adding a line to the prefs. and change your default search page.

nice so far! & it's my default. with OW/IE a rarely used 2nd

This is my first experience with Chimera and I think it's pretty ****ing cool. Fast page rendering, beautiful Cocoa front, bookmark folders in the toolbar...

tabbed browsing is very fast, but it;s somwhat obtrusive. It doesn't harmonize well with the interface. hmmm.

    .5 will not launch.

It says that Navigator is already running on the system, and it is not. I deleted everything even related to Mozilla and Navigator; no go.

Maybe it just doesn't like my iTunes playlist.

    Unix ownz my s0u1!

What's the difference between this official release and the nightly? New bugs fixed?

Moogs: The 9-9-02 build and the official 0.5 release are exactly the same. They are both build 2002090913.
