When is it too much Compression?

I'm not sure if this thread belogns here but...



For all you AudioGeeks out there:



Have you ever heard anyone use Compression on a piece of music (vocals) like this:



Apply compression when recording a vocal.

Apply compression to effects when adding effects to the vocal.

Apply compression the entire mix.

    That seems just plain stupid. Don't compress it until the end... It'll have much higher quality.

    At most, two conversions (compressions) should take place. One to get audio into the format used while editing. The second to compress it for a particular delivery medium.

    Methinks the OP is talking about Dynamic Range Compression and not file compression.
