    "Don't forget the butter?"

Geez, we're quoting dodgy '70s arthouse/porno films now?

    Hi folks over here,

Apple has silently removed an important feature from it's website. Please check http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/timemachine.html There is no evidence left for the possibility to connect the Time Machine drive to my AirPort Extreme though it was there. Do I have to keep it connected locally to my MacBook?

Has anyone tested whether it's possible to have a Time Machine hard disk connected via AirDisk? It was reported to work under Leopard's developer previews.

Several other website/blogs have confirmed that the feature has been removed. I don't NEED to upgrade to Leopard, but TM was one of the bigger reasons to do it. My laptop floats around the house and is seldom at my desk. AirDisk funtionality would have made backups a no brainer. Now I'll guess I'll wait on Leopard.

For what it's worth, people are speculating that the reason the feature was pulled was because AirDisk was not reliable enough. And I can only imagine how upset people would be if they lose their hard drive and go to restore it only to find out too late that their backup was incomplete. Hopefully they will fix AirDisk and restore the feature soon.

That must be the reason. It is a backup utility, so better make it work rock solid or you get hammered by your customers. No one tolerates data loss.

I'm all for high contrast, but Aqua itself just doesn't feel at home with the new iTunes/Leopard look. Maybe I was expecting too much? I'd just been assuming that with iTunes, we were seeing a bit of foreshadowing of the new Leopard UI (much like the Mac OS 9 version of iTunes gave us all an early taste of Aqua).

It's more about consistency than the look itself. But as of late, that hasn't really been Apple's strong point. Nevertheless, Leopard still looks a heck of a lot nicer than Tiger.

Could someone who's got the GM version go to the terminal and run strings on the Dock to see if you get anything sensible back please. I'm intrigued to know how hackable the dock will be.

    Code:

    strings /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/MacOS/Dock

Also, once Time Machine has done its thing and you've got a backup copy of your newly installed disk, can you check if Dock Delight still works to remove the wee blue indicator lights please?

    Thanks muchly.

Uh, did they change the "Find" feature in Safari? It was supposed to darken the background of the page and put a spotlight on the text that was found. But in this screenshot, it looks like it's just highlighting stuff the old fashioned way. What gives?

    Well, that sucks.

I can't see the gallery at all. What can I do to see it?

And yes I am currently on a PC trying to view the images. I assume its the PNG images, although I am running IE 7 fully updated.

    Ireland,

Thanks for replying. I did, but still can't see them for some reason. I have tried refreshing, etc. but the problem seems to be the PNG files. I can see the images on the other posts perfectly well, as well as the images in this thread. I think one of the first posters on this thread also had a similar problem.

iPhoto was never included in MacOS X - it may appear in the restoration dvd's but never as part of the retail version of MacOS X.

Well, I'd sooner have that than gaudy GUI designed for the ADD within the Mac community - lord knows having to put up with websites with white backgrounds is bad enough; a GUI with excessive brightness after a long period of time gives me chronic headaches.

Both images in this thread, in my post, are PNG though.

    Ireland,

I saw that just now. Wow this really doesn't make sense but it is the case. I STILL cannot see the gallery in the main article. Oh well...

In the UK and my pre-ordered copy did not arrive. The folks at TNT were laughing because the drivers have been so busy with Leopard orders that they've not been able to make good on the delivery dates. Hopefully get my mits on it in the morning.

I guess that's good news for Apple, bad news for my geeky side! What's a guy to do on a Friday night without a new OS.
