image editor question

i've used seashore, pixelmator, and pixel 1.0, and i was wondering if there was some other app that was free and has the same functions as pixelmator. my one quip with seashore was that it couldn't resize images to specifications. (or maybe i never found out how to)



i enjoyed pixelmator except for the fact it was a 30 day trial and had a watermark stamped across it.



what other image editors are out there?

    In the image menu you get resolution, boundaries and scale but I suspect you mean the equivalent of free transform.

    It's usually considered the best free equivalent to Photoshop but it still needs X11 under OS X. Personally after using GIMP before, I'd save up for Pixelmator. I still don't know about custom brushes and plugins with Pixelmator though so I might go for Photoshop Elements if I was on a budget. Day to day, I just use Photoshop.

    GraphicConverter is not free, but neither does it watermark your images. It is nagware (on startup) if you don't pay the fee.

    Just a heads up: GIMP 2.4 craps the console full of warnings for me on Leopard after I installed it as admin and try to use it as a user. Also crashed on me in minutes during a simple, low-intensity editing job. Either GIMP's rights need to be set manually or it just plain doesn't mix with Leopard yet.

    There are to basic tools I ues for image work, aside from Photoshop. They are LiveQuartz and ImageShackle. The former is a moderately powerful image editor that uses the Core Image effects built into OS X- and it does include some pixel-level editing capabilities. The latter is a widget that is built to do one thing and do it well: resize images to whatever resolution you want!

    I like LiveQuartz because, true to Apple style, it has a negligible learning curve, and once you know what you want to do, it's more than capable of doing it.
