Chimera 0.6 is officially out. Go download it now. You will not regret it.

Yeehah! Rock on Chimera!

Oddly enough, the official 0.6 release stuck as my default browser on the first try. Previously, none of the nightly builds would stick unless I deleted the two launch preference files and restarted.

I said that I would stick to the official 0.x releases and stop downloading nightlies when 0.5 came out. The significant useability improvements in the nightlies revived my addiction. With 0.6, I actually think I might be able to stay put for a few weeks...

BTW: The official 0.6 release is build 2002110415.

How ironic! I couldn't download this with Chimera 0.5, I had to use IE!

Option- or command-clicking the link would have done the job in 0.5 as well. You certainly won't run into this issue in 0.6 anymore. Using the nightlies, I had forgotten how much work the download interface still neededin 0.5.

I had quit using chimera because it just wouldn't launch consistently, but I just downloaded .6 and it seems better. And they finally remapped the back and forward commands. Now if someone would just do that with the finder...

I'd love to try this software but it won't even launch!!

0.5 always gave me a message that "Navigator could not launch because it is already running" (WTF?)

0.6 is a little more normal, it simply quits unexpectedly every time it is done launching.

What a piece of crap! Makes me feel like my Mac turned into a Windows box all of a sudden

The problem, I'm sad to say, is your system.

What a joke. It doesn't show pages WHILE they are loading (you know, like one image loads, then the other, etc, like in IE.) It is NOT faster than IE for me either.

And it just doesn't work. I tried watching trailers at Apple's site. It froze with a Rainbow in 10.1.4. Maybe I'll check back at .7 or when I get Jag in a few days.

As the goalie from SlapShot said:

    "O-W-N-Z!

    O-W-W-W-N-Z!"

Other than the still-laggy text widget, this thing kicks ass. Once a native widgetis implemented and they polish up some loose ends like the Bookmark stuff, this browser will have no competition under OmniWeb 5 (a ways off to be sure).

One gripe I see is that the history in the sidebar takes forever to open up and could be more intuitive (like show dates on the folders). Though history is a feature that is disabled by default anyway...

I'd also like to see some keyboard customization options (hotkeys and such). And also, what's up with calling it "Navigator" anyway? Chimera is easily my default browser these days though, nothing touches it.

No it still sucks. Text entry bugs aside, Chimera just has a poor interface compared to IE. Why doesn't hitting Command-Down go to the bottom of a page, or Command-B get rid of all bars? Duuuh. And this text entry bug is ridiculous. It can't do pllug-ins and I rember wondering where the download manager in .5 was. I have speed download now, and it successfully integrated with that, to its credit. Damn, this text entry bug is retared! I typed this response and sat back and watched it dribble in for a minute.

Yes it needs a better name than Navigator too.

It looks as if they haven't even TOUCHED text entry since Chimera was started. It hasn't improved in months. It's pathetic. Yarr.

Who cares what the name is as long as it works good?

I would start using this if:

    Text entry bug fixed.

    Spell Checking.

Use of normal Aqua widgets/font sizes (like in OmniWeb.)

Otherwise, its fast and awesome in general...

Yeah it's fast but it seems to suck every available CPU cycle I've got and then some. Back to OW for me...

Damn! They would have to release this while my iBook is in the shop, and I'm stuck using someone else's OS 9 machine. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />
