Final Cut Pro/Quartz extreme???

Back before the day of 10.2 and a clear understanding of what quartz extreme does, I remember reading something very interesting posts in one of appleinsider's long dissusions. Someone said he/she saw an apple demo of a new version of FCP (4.0?) that took advantage of quartz extreme and was able to have 20-50 layers +effects playing realtime. Since Quartz exteme is a compositing layer I imagine that it actually has the possibility to do this to a certain extent, but nothing I read anywhere metions anything. I really wish this is true, it could increase the speed of editing 100fold. Anyone confirm/discredit/info?

Theoretically this kind of stuff is possible; the Matrox RTMac card just offloaded all the effects to a G450(?) chip.
