Of course, you can still download BBEdit Lite for free and then crossgrade for $120 or so. Since I don't use many of BBEdit's featuers, it's a bit steep for a text editor. I'm still using BBEdit 6.0.
Someone on Versiontracker was actually complaining about BBEdit's upgrade pricing.
He claims he is a programmer, and that $49 is just way too much for an upgrade. He also claims they update the program way too often and charge for it.
They release maybe an update a year for $50, which ends up being probably half of one of his billable hours. I'll gladly pay the $50 to upgrade to 7.0, because it pays for itself on hundred times over.
The multiple web sites thing I've been waiting for, for quite a long time. Should have been added sooner, seems like a no-brainer.
Sounds like the programmer guy complaining is just jealous that he doesn't have a program that people will pay to upgrade. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

People cough at that price for a "text editor" because most text editors can't come near what BBEdit does - and does well, and without crashing.
I've never even blinked at paying the upgrade fees. $49 a year or so for an application that's grown at the rate that BBEdit has is a steal.
