Hey I'm new to the board, but I thought you guys might want to sign this petition I made up for the Mac users out there... I'm tired of not having any good Media sharing apps!

Kazaa sucks. It's full of spyware. Theres a program called Direct Connect. The last time I checked its company website, it said that a Mac OS X version is in developement and that there was no release date set. But I hope its going to be soon. The website is <a href="http://www.neo-modus.com"; target="_blank">here</a>

Ive used Direct Connect on PCs countless amounts of times and I find it MUCH better than Kazaa, Limewire etc. So please wait for Direct Connect to release.

LIMEWIRE SUX ASS!!! Direct Connect is better and the Mac OS X version is gonna be awesome!

I agree that Direct Connect is better for pure volume. Hopefully it will run smoother than LW. Limewire is very choppy and not very responsive.

    C'mon guys.

We have Neo, Acquisition, giFT, DC, and XNap. And no one should ever mention Limewire, ever. Also Soulseek will be here RSN?.

Want to know all about giFT and DC? It's called sourceforge.net

    <a href="http://giftbox.sourceforge.net"; target="_blank">giFT in a 10.2 friendly .app wrapper</a>

Check <a href="http://arstechnica.infopop.net/OpenTopic/page?a=tpc&s=50009562&f=8300945231&m=9230972935"; target="_blank">this thread</a> on Ars for getting DC up under OS X.2

    <a href="http://xnap.sourceforge.net/download.php"; target="_blank">XNap, with a 10.2 installer.</a>

We don't have Kazaa, we don't have Morpheus. We don't have spyware.

Using XNap I'm currently connected to 12 Servers, 24,403 Users, 11,328,791 Files, 401.9 TB. That's right, Terrabytes. It's a java app, but performs excellently.

I shake my head and think of threads like this while I'm downloading perfectly with LimeWire. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

    LimeWire/Aquisition. Works for me.

the new versin of limewire isn't slow, and aquisition works just fine. i'll admit the more apps the better, but only if they are quality, otherwise mide as well use a PC

Guys just wait for the official release of DC for Mac OS X. I just tried to get it going with the DC GUI that was released for OS X but then i realized that I can wait. I hope Jon Hess, the DC creator releases DC for X soon.. He posted that he started working on it back in March of this year.

I can never get Gnutella to work!

Screw that. Kazaa is pretty good, don't diss it. However Neo is pathetic. This is Kazaa's greedy fault however, they did good with what they had.

    I want Soulseek for Macintosh!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why? U. RI doesn't block it

All these little open source apps are nice but what about for non-UNIX geeks?
  • Reply 12 of 23
Acquisition, Neo, and XNap don't require ANY unix or cli knowledge. Just double click to run and setup your preferences for sharing and downloading. Simple as that.

gIFT is probably just as easy, but I haven't tried it yet myself.

And they don't work. Just like iSwipe, great ideas that aren't realized. Haven't tried Xnap and I don't have Jag for the new version of Acquisition but for some reason Gnutella always sucks for me..?

Kazaa is great. Actually, Kazaa Lite (spyware free) is great. I don't care if they bring over Kazaa to the Mac because it will only be a matter of weeks before Kazaa Lite will be here too.

Not only is Kazaa great, but almost every PC user I know uses it. The more people that use it the more files there are. Acquisition is good (much, much better than Limewire) but not as good as Kazaa.

Besides the spyware, which won't port easily and which will therefor remove the business case for a lot of Kazaa's partners if they go to OS X (and which I really don't think the Mac needs anyway - isn't it a good thing that the Mac is secure and private?) I had a chance to use Kazaa on a PC last week, and I really don't know about "great." If they do port it to OS X, I sure hope they rework the interface. It's not horrible for a single-threaded, swiss-army-knife UI, but still. Bleah.

Then, of course, there is the issue of piracy. But I'm assuming that the people asking for Kazaa care as little about that as they do about whether random people are taking unknown amounts of personal data and selling it to obscure companies for a profit while they download away.

Which is why Direct Connect is the best among them all... It doesnt reveal your personal information unless your share your home directory... heh... its the best among them all.. Trust me.. Ive used the others and I didnt like them as much as I like DC.... Just a thought... you dont have to agree with me.
