Powerbook G4 Monitor problem / no backlight?

Greetings all

I am hoping there is a genius out there that can help me with this daunting problem. I have an old powerbook g4 aluminum, approx 4.5 years old and the backlight just burnt out. I can see the desktop if I shine a light on the screen, but if there is no light on in the room, I cant see anything at all. Is there anything I can do about this besides paying the 350 to send it in to apple? I dont really want to spend that much on such an old computer when I am probably going to need to buy a new one soon. That being said, I am training with the Marine Corps right now and dont have the money to buy a new one, so I have basically been squinting for the last 2 weeks.

Thanks a lot

Sam

Not much you can do, really. Maybe try to find an LCD assembly online, or, if you can stomach it, get a new inverter and disassemble the current LCD assembly and replace that part.
