Weatherpop Advance - a little odd...

I really like this app, but apparently it has a sense of humor. I just looked at the forecast for my city/state and it reads, "Tonight: Sunny, Lo 30 degrees." It's going to be sunny tonight? So, it's not going to be dark? I better stay up!

I posted the feedback below on WeatherPop Advance's page <a href="http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=15090&db=mac"; target="_blank">on VersionTracker</a> just yesterday.

[quote]WeatherPop still does not parse forecasts from Weather.com correctly. So I've been using Wunderground as a source. (AOL is terribly inaccurate.) In recent weeks, however, WeatherPop has been failing to get a five-day forecast from Wunderground. WeatherPop also quits randomply every few days. This situation is disappointing for an application that started out so well. Glu: Don't forget about your paying customers! It's time for a fix/update to WeatherPop!<hr></blockquote>

There are still some abnoxious parsing errors with the days and highs and lows from several data sources. E.g. it's snowing heavily in the DC area right now, but my WP icon just switched to Sunny because Wunderground is reporting conditions as "unknown". So I tried to switch data source to to the NWS (Weather.gov) and WP crashed on me. It's been very unstable in recent weeks.

Despite all of these problems, I think that WeatherPop is the best menu bar weather app out there, have paid for it, and will continue using it.

    Lisa Zorn, where are you?

Hear, hear. Meteorologist rocks. I think just about every feature you'd get if you paid for Weather Pop instead of using the free version is already free in Meteorologist.

One complaint about it, though: If you happen to quit Meteorologist and start it up again (if you have to log out or restart, for example) Meteorologist doesn't seem to remember the cities you added to it. At least mine doesn't, anyway. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

    One more vote for Meteorologist!

(from Winston-Salem: you enjoying the snow and ice in greensboro, jmclarke?)

    Brad,

Ummm... "enjoying" isn't the word I would've chosen for my feelings about the weather. I would've responded sooner, had I been with electricity. I lost it about 6 AM Thursday morning, and just got it back this (Saturday) morning.

Ridiculous. But there are still people without. It's amazing how unprepared Greensboro is for this weather.

Yeah, I was shocked at the number of power outages after everything refroze Thursday. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" /> I gues I've been lucky to have power, phone, and gas all working properly here.

Anyhow, to get back on topic, an update to WeatherPop and WeatherPop Advance was released this morning. You should grab it and see if it fixes your problem.

    Meteorologist's home page:

    yeah i know...

I use apple command 4 and snapz X pro (it is automatic isnt it?)

but because it requires a mouse click to activate... the menu disapears as soon as i take the pic...

I'm not sure what's wrong with your Snapz Pro X. Even since the early betas, it has always worked like this. For capturing menus, you can either press your capture key while holding the mouse down or you can click the menu once and then press the capture key. Maybe you should change your capture key. I use command-shift-2 since the system's own screencapture uses command-shift-4.

hmmmm.... how do i change that?

i cant seem to get the app to open

Double-click the Snapz app once to launch it. It will then be running in the background waiting to be activated. You can then bring the control palette to the front in one of two ways. Either press your preset combo key or double-click the app's icon again. Once the palette is open, click the Preferences tab. Change the hot key in the field at the top. Note the modifier keys menu next to the field.

Since we are veering WAY off-topic here, I suggest you just create a new thread for Snapz if you need further discussion about it.

i is shallow too....weatherpop is just too pretty...tried the others, but came back to weatherpop for the looks....guess i am setting a bad example for my kids, but it was worth the eight bucks to have those pretty icons on my menu....g

ps had the smokin'hot Lighthouse on my menu for the first time the other day....we don't get fog often here in the desert...usually too freakin dry....looked on my menu and saw the lighthouse and was thinking, "what the hell is that for?" and then look outside and it was actually fogged in....cool....g

Yes, that would be very easy to do. Simply pull the tifs from the WeatherPop's Contents/Resources/WeatherPopApp.app/Contents/Resources/gfx directory, convert them to icns files, rename, and drop into Meteorologist's Resources directory.

Frankly, I prefer Meteorologist's icons already. WeatherPop's are too cartoony lookin' for me.
