How can I make iTunes Plus My default Location in iTunes 7.5?

Since iTunes Plus came out some months ago I have been using it happily until I was asked if I wanted to update to iTunes 7.5, now I have lost the "Plus" feature as my default location and when I click on the iTunes plus link/s all I get is an FAQ, with no actual link to re-upgrading to an iTunes plus account.

As a last resort I went to the store and hit on the + button beside a random song but all I got was the same FAQ I was at before, which has no actual link to any iTunes Plus Software Upgrade. I have tried re-installing version 7.5 but all I get is the same damn iTunes basic account that I had before

Can anyone help?

iTunes Plus is not an account upgrade. It refers to the quality of the music being purchased. Normal iTunes songs (with DRM) are 128kbps AAC files. iTunes Plus songs are 256kbps AAC without DRM. Are you talking about upgrading your DRMed files to iTunes Plus? In order to do this, the songs you want to upgrade have to be available as iTunes Plus.

If I understand what you're talking about, there is no longer any way to select iTunes Plus as your default. You used to do that because you could still buy the regular DRM, 128k files (for cheaper) when they first introduced iTunes plus. They don't have the old files around any longer, and they're the same price.

I'm confused, there are "+" marks beside many store tracks (a mark that would not be there if I were still on iTunes Plus) and the songs have reverted back to the old 128 kbps price.

I deliberately bought a track that the "+" indicated was available in iTunes Plus (after exhausting every iTunes Plus link), in the hope that I would get the available 256 kbps "Plus" version, yet when I downloaded it and selected "Get Info" it was in 128 kbps and I was charged the cheaper iTunes basic price!

Tracks are available in the iTunes store on iTunes Plus (as indicated by a "+" beside them in the store column), meaning there should be a way to state my default preference for always getting such tracks is 256 kbps (and not 128), yet after exhausting every link in the store and deliberately trying to buy an iTunes Plus Track, i'll be damned if there is a way of getting it in iTunes Plus.

Surely this should not be happening and there MUST be a way of selecting I want 256 kbps (when available) ?

Are you sure the track you purchased is 128? Perhaps some tracks are sold without DRM but at the regular 128 bit rate? I don't know.

But remember, iTunes Plus tracks are now the same price as the regular tracks, and they don't have duplicates - if a track is sold in iTunes Plus format, it's only in iTunes Plus. There's no option and no need to set a default one way or the other.

Oh God, you are so right, I have been away for a while and now feel totally out the loop, I went and checked again and everything tallied with what you said I don't know if I read it wrong or if the information changed, but it's all worked out now.

Thank you for your help, i'm sorry i've been so stupid!
