Ok, i know some of you are touchy on this(record company workers perhaps) but which is the best P2P client for OSX? I've tried direct Connect, its ok but i want something that allows me to search without scrolling through tonsa of users first. Limewire is just pants so any URLS would be a nice xmas pressie.

Some people have had problems with Acquisition, myself included, but Direct Connect works fine (for me) You don't have to scroll through a huge list of users, you can search in DC and it searches all Users connected to all the Hubs that you are connected to, and displays the results in a way somewhat similar to how the search in Finder (Jag) works.

EDIT: Pirating is bad. Remember that.

Acqusition is quite promising but I have no such luck. I last used it a few months ago and it was no good.

    has it improved?

    nice little P2P client.

Acquisition sucks ass. Limewire is light years better. Direct Connect serves most of my P2P needs.

Also check out KDXClient & KDXServer.

I've been using Acquisition for a while. I seem to think the previous versions were better. Many files I try to download hang up at 97.7kb. I also have a hard time connecting to servers. Two versions ago, I connected to a MINIMUM of 50 servers. Now I am hard pressed to connect to 10. Still better than Limewire. I've never tried Direct Connect.

Rather than opening a steady connection, Limewire now opens brief windows of 97.7kb when downloading. The newer versions of Acquisition work around that.

See the xlife forums here for info on more recent builds:

I used MacPhex a year ago and it was quite good at results, but had a very slow GUI..

But now I only use Xnap, and I must say that this is the best thing since Audio Galaxy.. I can find almost anything I want, sometimes better than on the old AG, and the gui is fast for a java app..

if a body is willing to go through manually hacking at source and building dcgui/dclib, i think that is a pretty sweet program. it goes into direct connect. the reason i prefer it over the official neo-modus release is spidering; never underestimate the power of a spider. [spidering is the ability to download the same file from multiple servers at once, resulting in quicker download speed; 100 megs from 1 person @ 1MB/s is 100 seconds. 100 megs from 10 people @ 1 MB/s is 10 seconds.].

It's great. I'm still using 0.65, as I just upgraded to Jaguar and haven't updated it yet.

Acquisition can take a while to find others, but once it has everything moves smoothly.

Thanks for the link, Brad. I have to try the latest build because the last version of Acquistion hasn't been as good.

If you do get the newer versions of Acquisition, EmAn, be sure to note that the developer strongly recommends using the Java 1.4.1 DPs. Download the Java update from <a href="http://connect.apple.com"; target="_blank">Apple Developer Connection</a>.

I'm surprised no one pointed out that this actually belongs in Software, not GD.

How does Kazaa work on a mac running Virtual PC? Since Kazza is not a very heavy program it should be usable on VPC or what?

KaZaA works just fine in VPC. You are right that it doesn't use a lot of resources.

    True, Spart. Moving to Software...
