Along those lines: there was a patent awarded to Apple and noted on most of the fan-sites, don't remember specifically, but AI most likely is among those who reported on it... Anyway the patent was a way to reduce the amount of space dedicated to ports. Those pesky engineers over in Cupertino had worked out a way to rotate the USB port among others so that when not in use it would be covered and hidden behind a door which is flush with the chassis of the laptop.

From the mental image I have of the drawings, the profile of the chassis used in the patent filing was pretty close to what is seen on this mock-up/fake/spyshot. Perhaps this is the commercial application of that concept...?

I didn't do a search for the original reports on the patent filing; If you care enough do your own search...

    Care to share?

This gets you to both the images I am thinking of. The Bed & The Desk. There are differences between the two, but both are very much along the same line of thought (if you were to ask me, which it seems you did)

I find it odd that there's an Apple Remote pictured but no IR port for reception. \

IR port could be hidden, on the white G5/Intel iMac it was behind the grey  logo.

I was thinking you meant more images of the one on the bed, not images of other designs.

The one on the bed really seems the most realistic to me.

Yeah, after seeing the mock-up on the desk again I realized it wasn't the EXACT same machine...

But it's what I was referring to.

I had linked to this site back up at post #6:

Anyway, this is one of the best-looking mockups out there, but it was not taken in an elevator, which certainly raises questions about its authenticity. It is also not a rumor from and overheard conversation in a coffee shop. So, as nice as it is, it might not be real.

    A response to Tonton:

If you believe marriage is between one man and one woman, then do something please, about the 53% divorce rate, the pain it causes children who act out their pain in schools wasting valuable time of teachers, administrators, and parents; the trillion dollar porn industry that undercuts and decimates committed relationships; the unnecessary sexualization of relationships on TV that are devoid of values; and the holier than thou attitude that sneers at two committed men or two committed women.

Maybe we ought to let gay/lesbian people have a chance at marriage, since nongay people have messed it up so badly.

    It's that simple.

    May I ask a question?

Does the above post have anything whatsoever to do with this thread?

I wonder how long the battery life in that thing would be? Isn't the hard drive the most power consuming part in a laptop?

I'd rather they make a version of the MacBook Pro that is ruggedized for use in the desert, handles drops without denting, and can handle the abuses routinely found in the field. I like the laptop presented above because business people and students will love it (imagine schools getting these for their students), but I wish Apple made one model ruggedized for the people that need them that way. Just my 2 cents.

If it's not relevant, why was it in the original poster's .sig?

It was clearly nonsense, as pointed out by John5481.

    Blame the original poster.

LOL you didn't get my point. My signature is suggesting that the bigoted fundies simply live their lives as they see fit and stay the hell out of other people's business. So I think we're in full agreement. Read carefully next time.

a sig is a sig is a sig... my sig doesn't relate to the topic at hand but nobody has brought that up yet...

The topic of this thread is Apple nano, not marriage. The sig used by Tonton has been on every post he's made to multiple threads for some time.

Also, obviously, some people need to read better before criticizing.

Still reads as a troll to me; the only reason he joined was to make a comment that was off topic. He could have started a new thread entitled Marriage, the failure of American Values or something like that.

    Back on topic:

If they include a flash disk of some size, then the device could read the HD, load into RAm and then shut down the HD to conserve power. Would raise cost perhaps, but it is a way of extending battery life.

But the frequency that a machine needs to read from the hard drive makes it so that the HD/SSD would be spun/powered down for only a few minutes at most, before needing to reengage. In the case of a normal HD, that's very stressful on the heads and platters, and leads to HD failure more commonly. As for the effects on SSDs, I can't really say.

    Didn't know that about HDs...

What if they made the Flash Drive large enough to handle the system and app and whatever file... the HD would then just be more for back u or so.

Actually, I think a lot of people will go for the Asus EeePc over the new MacPort [MP], especially since Asus just announced larger screens. I heard that Asus might be supplying the parts or doing the construction of the MacPort but I have not had that confirmed independently so I do not know if it is in fact, true.

The EeePc is about one-fourth (and less, depending on the model) of the rumored $1,500. price of the MP and it is in very high demand. Moreover, it affords ultraconvenience in every way. Part of me wants to believe that Mr. Jobs kept a careful watch on the consumer response to the EeePc as one of several reasons to introduce his new subnotebook. The Asus EeePc signals the death of the hard drive as we know it and will ever know it.

Incidentally, I am very pleased with the Macbook that I purchased in late September (yes, just several weeks BEFORE Leopard was released, sigh!)

However, in today's world, ultraportability is the new inconvenient truth to manufacturers who will not produce subnotebooks. That the Asus EeePc's sales continue to surge might (and probably will) overshadow the introduction of the new Apple MacPort.

If Mr. Jobs truly wants to start a revolution, however "unrealistic" this might seem to be to the execs at Apple who determine prices, he would price the new MacPort at $800. and then charge $150.+ for all those external accessories that we take for granted on the typical laptops we enjoy.

In today's economy, I would advise him that, yes, consumers ARE moving in droves away from the Windows environment BUT ultimately they want ultraconvenience at an affordable price point. That is evidenced by the EeePc phenomenon.

To my mind, the thinking consumer recognizes that ultimately, they are NOT buying a computer but an operating system. However, faced with a $400. Asus subnotebook product and the acclaimed OSX at around $1,500., many Apple loyalists and enthusiasts might retain their Macbooks and opt for the affordable Asus. I, for one, will eagerly track how many opt to purchase the MacPort.

I would hate for the MacPort to be discontinued in two years or less because in the real world, money sometimes talks louder than operating systems, however superior they are.

I appreciate all the responses on my initial post. In today's world, however, precision of thought and communicating in ways that do not smack of double entendre are crucial if human beings are going to be understood, appreciated, and valued.
