iTunes way too slow...

Hi. I'm Shaun. I'm new here.



So, i have a library of about 50,000 songs on an external USB hard drive. Since I added all this music to iTunes, it has become painfully slow...



iTunes takes nearly 15 seconds to respond to a single click, and slows the entire computer down when it is doing a seemingly simple task. It uses up 100% of my CPU power.



Anyone have any suggestions?



I'm on a Dell, 512 mb memory, iTunes 7.5.0.20.
