    Just to re-it:

-what's the largest format-block I can make on an external HD?

is my 'firewire' known as FW400? (got that one answered already)

WIll the new OS allow me larger HD-format blocks?

    come on, help an old member out over-heya . . . .

What's a format block? The minimum 'chunk' that the filesystem can allocate or the maximum size of hard drive (really partition) that the filesystem can address? The former isn't generally user settable; HFS determines it based on the size of the drive. The latter is vastly larger than any external hard drive made.

I'm not sure that Leopard improves either aspect of the file system over Tiger.
