My bet is on Google Apple alliance (Google Airwaves Inc.). I think they will unveil plans and good news regarding the FCC auction for the 700mhz spectrum.

About the only thing that would make up for that and my theory on the "theres something in the air" logo is the following:

APPLE HELPS GOOGLE WIN THE 700mhz SPECTRUM AUCTION!!

That would absolutely transform the wireless industry forever.

    Think of the possibilities.

Google certainly wouldn't need Apple to bid on spectrum.

Since you asked... last week. While I was waiting at the airport for a flight that was delayed 3 hours. Don't get me wrong, I don't think the technology is there yet to allow for movie downloads on an iPhone, but a subscription type service that would allow you to stream one much like you already do with the YouTube App, would be a great addition.

I think the something is "content" - your content at home, your content on your Leopard servers or MS Exchange server, or your content at the iTunes Store or other stores. And you can get to it via the "air" anytime, anywhere on your Apple products (iPod Touch, iPhone, AppleTV, laptops, desktops, etc).

For the time being, "anytime, anywhere" is limited to wi-fi access (and wired Internet access of course), except iPhone has access via EDGE for some content. When iPhone gets 3G later in the year, then additional content will be opened up to it. (I doubt current or new Mac laptops will have 3G built-in; it'll still be via an optional card.)

Apple has already shown us Back to My Mac - accessing your home Mac disk via .Mac from any Internet-connected Mac. Now this will include access your AppleTV disk, or an Airport Extreme-connected home server disk. And for businesses, it will now include access to Leopard servers or MS exchange servers. And it will now include additional access to content directly at the iTunes Store - for rent or for purchase, and to "content" at other stores, like purchasing not just songs but coffee at Starbucks.

And, of course, it could also include a new mobile product - sized in-between iPhone and the MacBook. And as I've said in previous posts, it explains why the iPod Touch has flash instead of a hard drive - all along, Apple has intended for it to be able to get new content (downloaded and stored, or just streamed) when you have wi-fi access.

Finally, it may include a FON type of distribution scheme to increase the presence of wi-fi for Apple's devices. We know that the FON CEO met with Jobs and was interested; we haven't heard from him for awhile, so it's even possible that Apple has quietly bought out FON and will announce it at MW.

When I referenced the banner and thus the song, "There is something in the Air" to sharing wifi, is in most part what you outlined.

Sharing wifi with others, e.g., the public, or within the confines of one's personal domain is certainly the way of the future. The fact that the song itself proclaims revolutionary intent was definitely ideal for the theme in Easy Rider. In addition, everything about Jobs and the manner he accomplishes things is equally revolutionary or rebellious.

If I may add another possibility past the ability to communicate, compute and entertain wirelessly, lets not forget his patent on induction (wireless) charging and data transfer.

In any event, I think that Job's has something 'revolutionary' in mind. Not, simply renting movies. And to your reference to Fon, perhaps an Apple WiFi Extreme is in the cards.

It's not hard to imagine iPods coupling to other Apple equipment wirelessly for

both power and data, though this seems like overkill.

This is another excellent suggestion, although you lose a significant amount of power due to the inefficiency of transmitting electricity this way (as I understand it).

This music is classic sixties, very inspiring. I just discovered Pete Townsend of the Who was instrumental in forming band. Through WikiPedia I noticed reference to Jimmy McCulloch a 15 year old (one year older than me at the time) in the band, from Glasgow Scotland my hometown

As I said download it from iTunes it's a great piece of Music.

Just my two cents; "Rock on Apple"

Revolutionary? Rebellious? Something only Jobs could accomplish? Sharing wifi? Hmm?

    .

and that may get you cut off by your ISP or may even being on the hook for people how use to your wifi to download music , movies, kid porn, you it to hack in to other systems and so on.

Good luck saying that apple said it was ok in court.

This could provide clues as to the future direction of the iPhone (especially as it relates to GPS integration).

How about if it was done thru iTunes, .Mac or such.

Noting Jobs interest during his talks with Fon, if anybody could get it to work?now that would be revolutionary.

Hey, didn't mean to miss your post. This thread was already so long, and I admit I skipped a bunch before replying.

If what FON does is done by software, then Apple could upgrade all the Extremes that are already out there, and just like that, the network would grow overnight.

I know people have jokingly mentioned it having to do with Apple in the air as in airplanes. And while I don't seriously think that this is the case, it would be interesting if Apple had partnered with an Airline to create a "Seat-back Mac". Couple that with inflight internet that is currently being tested and it would be a great flying experience.

They could essentially use the iPhone / iPod touch OS and link the iPod media to an onboard media server. They could add a custom iTunes store interface for buying movies to watch on the plane (residing on the media server) and even add a usb port and allow people to buy songs from the main iTunes catalog then transfer them to an iPod or iPhone via usb.

The plus for Apple would be that Airline passengers are a very captive audience and if you've just spent hours using an Apple device on a plane, think of how likely the person is now to convert to a Mac or buy an iPod or iPhone. Plus, it's all that time sitting that you could be buying things off the iTunes store.

"something in the air" could very well be good old tv. for the iphone.

at&t is launching it´s mobile tv initiative this month

    (see: http://www.engadget.com/2007/12/19/a...sible-in-2008/ ).

Since it´s software based, no tuner inside the iphone would be needed. this would be huge for the average consumer, would sell lot´s of iphones and would surely make at&t very happy, too.

Now just add radio and ebooks and the iphone really is king of all media.

IPTV + movie/TV rental is my bet.

AT&T will be the primary partner. AT&T wants to push IPTV as an alternative to cable. AppleTV will be the set top box.

    Yes, this will be big.

    something in the air

seems you are looking, seaching, it's there but you have to find it and capture it

that's why i think it has to do with a wireless service but to have it you need connectivity

e.g. integraion of iphone, gps, buying wirelessly via iphone, iTV so all wifi will be able to do this

imagine apple becomeing the 1click equivalent of amazon with certain sponsors e.g. starbucks, airports, resturants etc. the vendor(starbucks et al) have promotions BUT you need connectivity exclusive to apple

iphone, iTV express, where you can take it with you

apple assisted vendors e.g starbucks, imagine how many vendors would like this direct targeted selling

Has anyone considered that the real banners are behind these banners. Maybe these were just put up to confuse geeks that are obsessed with fonts

Yes I mentioned that several times already. These banners are material, the real ones aren't. They are covers. This is nothing new, Apple's done it before.

This is Apple's way of marketing an extremely light notebook. "So light it floats." Bla bla bla.

Also, if you look at those banners you will see they are merely a cover for other banners, they are wrinkled material. When Steve announces this flash notebook they will remove those material banners to reveal the real banners with product photos etc.

It's for the ultra-light MacBook, mark my words.

BINGO!!!! Congratultions - it will be called the new "MACBOOK AIR" with no disc drive etc. The ultra light portable will arrive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks.

Yeah, judging by 9 to 5's accuracy recently it may very well be called MacBook Air.

If that is indeed the name it will be very weird as no one on the planet predicted that one. Not even me
