what the heck? i assume this is some sort of hack?

If you have Apple's dev tools installed, there is a simple checkbox in IB to toggle the textured interface of a window. This works fine for Safari (as in the file above).
The only app that I could ever use with the brushed metal is iTunes. The last few days has had people talking about the possiblity of this browser and I started thinking that if it was an iApp it would probably be brushed metal. It's not an iApp and it's metal anyway, but I don't mind it at all. I actually like it like that.
In addition to unchecking the texture thing, click on the window, select all and drag all the elements down until the blue line near the top disappears. Then drag the bottom grippy of the window down until the blue guide line appears to compensate.
I sent a bug report to Apple along the following lines: [quote] Would you PLEASE rethink using the brushed metal appearance for Safari? As many people in Mac Fora all over the world complain: Apple is taking this too far. iChat was already on the border, Safari is just plain over it. The brushed metal makes the navigation bar too obtrusive, and it doesn't befit an app with this function (browsing the web). Don't the human interface guidelines stipulate that brushed metal is meant for apps that mimick real life appliances (I think of iTunes)? I'm not sure about this, as I don't work at Apple.
I would just like to plea for NO brushed metal in Safari (or, if you must, at least give people a choice in the preferences or so).
Otherwise, I'm very happy with this new initiative, it does work very good already, especially considering it's still in beta.

I don't know. I admit, it has only been 16 hours or so, but I don't think I'll be able to settle for brushed metal. I still have problems with the metally iChat, and I thank the lord for not needing iCal. Hopefully, if there are enough people complaining, they WILL leave a choice, or even go 'Mail'-like, clear, unobtrusive, self-eliminating white.
I would love to be able to select a "use global hardware theme" option. Then when I am on my iceBook its all milky white. On a pismo black leather and on my fathers G3 iMac striped and on the current proline metal. Just like I wished the "home" folder was my computer model instead of the generic iMac.
And it would only take 5-6 themes to cover them all.
The brushed metal looks great. I really dislike standard Aqua with it. Probably because the widgets were designed for brushed metal. But I like brushed metal a lot anyway.
The more I use Safari the more I like the brushed metal. Normally I don't like it too much, but it just looks good this time.

Ditto.
I originally thought a metas browser would look terrible especially after seeing a metal Chimera. Once again, Apple manages to pull it off beautifully.
