It's been over 160 days since the last update... when will we see the next set of processor bumps/ graphics cards?
I am looking to make a purchase, but don't want to do it a week before the update comes! Any help you could offer would be most helpful!

Hey, I waited 8 months for a new iMac and it arrived almost a year after the previous models. The usual advice: if you need it, buy it! I am too lazy to search for hints from the Intel's roadmap but I thing nothing is coming till mid year. The design is pretty new so I don't expect surprises there.

From what I remember, before the end of this year. So, in around a year from now, the iMac will hopefully have 4 cores thumping inside.

Speed is yet to be revealed, but MY guess (according to the other models being released at that time) would be 2.53GHz.
This cpu will not be cheap (expect $999 or higher each if you buy them by 1,000). More expensive than the current 2.8GHz option on the 24" iMac. It will also be hot (45W TDP).
Since Apple is already using 44W cpus in the iMac, I guess they can put the upcoming mobile quad in a future 24" iMac. Can they put it elsewhere? What about the 17" MBP or even the 20" iMac?

But, IMO, if a 1st gen penryn, it could be just after the MBP gets it (anywhere between next week to late feb). If it's a 2nd gen penryn, anywhere between june and july.

I would think another Reason of the MBP not being updated yet is because...(this is just opinion)
the manufacturing plant has to be readied to build the new line. If the new MBP's are being made as we speak. I would guess apple is waiting for the "Stock" level of the older MBP to become lower..
because there are people blindly buying the MBP without even knowing its on the brink of an update.
so when the "Stocks" of the MBP become low enough then the New MBP will be announced. IMO

I was planning on making a purchase no later than late February, but could use it now. It makes it kind of tough, because I could really use the computer for the next month, but on the other hand... If I get it, it will probably get updated a week later!

I expect the iMac will get the Penryn processors about a month after the MacBook Pro gets them, and if people want a quad-core iMac, they will have to wait until the iMac moves to the Montevina platform.
