Wow! They went from 0.7 to 0.7.03 or something in less than a week, and what a change it has been. It has positively become an app that doesn't give you migraine when looking at it longer than 10 seconds (of course, I won't even MENTION Limewire). I also seems to have become a great deal more usable, although much does depend on the state of the Gnutella network. Still, it looks as if this release is the first that actually comes close to Limewire in terms of performance. What with Limewire vomit inducing interface and usability. We might have somewhat of a winner on our hands. Does anybody have some reactions? Worse luck with the app? Other recommendations?

Ooh, I forgot the mention the one thing that makes this app suck donkey balls: it is no longer freeware, which I find a bit ironic, seeing the very people using this app are cheap bastards who don't want to pay for the commercial shitmusic they tend to destroy their ears with.

Ah well, 'tis especially the download pane that has gotten nice-looking of a sudden.

search booleans or multiple filters would help

(still not back to where napster was)

futile results still show in search, but won't connect... OS X users with software firewall on and ports closed appear as a host with shared files, (and in prefs can offer folders for upload), but no transfer will ever occur

perhaps the app connects with a directory list assembled by Acquisition and sent out through the firewall, but in doing so it "spoofs" other servers into thinking it is open. need a way to differentiate somehow (or better yet, test a few packets and then ignore such "non-hosts")

and although search keywords are maintained between sessions, filter conditions are not, nor are downloads resumable (very necessary)

on the bright side, i notice that the results periodically clear themselves though the search keywords and conditions in the right pane remain... this is good, since before you had to delete a search, re-enter it and specify everything to force a refresh of results and not waste clicks on servers that had dropped

definitely crisper UI in the downloads pane, more info less eyestrain

and network negotiation which used to bog down my machine seems to have been minimized... much faster login to servers and less traffic to maintain specified number of connections

    slow progress forward...

$10 is a good shareware price, at least. I'd pay $10 for this, I paid $10 for Proteus. Both great apps. Not that I even use Proteus any more.

This new update has improved the speed quite a bit. Much more usable after leaving it on for several hours.

Oh, wait, it's $15. Oh well.. five bucks.. that could be a couple cases of pop, or the $15 total could be a pizza or something. Acquisition is pretty nice, I'd give the guy who makes it a pizza.

I loved this version of acquisition when i first installed it...but then it started reaking havoc on my airport basestation...I would eventually loose my connection after five minutes or so of use and the basestation (graphite) would freeze with 2 blue lites on (but with no data transfering)...so Ive gone back and forth with inpluging and restarting the basestation and as long as I use acquisition it will only work for 5 minutes or so before I have the problem...stop using acquisition and I the problem seems to have gone away...

as good as this version was for alittle while...I think im gonna wait till 1.0 <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

For some reason aquisition worked great at first and then it freezes my airport....and I need to unplug my graphite airport and restart it before it works again...this happened a bunch of times so I know it's do to the .7+ versions of aquisition...is there a setting that I could change that would help this? Or should I just wait for 1.0?

hey some of those updates were for features i requested (+ and - search booleans)

not only is it now faster, more stable, resumable, and improved interface... the developer listens to user feedback

imagine if Redmond responded that quickly

Producer: Did you change your Acquisition's network settings? Try and set them as follows:

    - via: LAN

    - 5 peers

    - DON'T allow ... Ultrapeer (this is only good if you're connected to Gnutella for multiple days or weeks without breaks)

Also, in Sharing, make sure the values are 5 and 2. That should be fine.

Do not increase this values unless you know what you're doing, as this can greatly increase networking and CPU load when you least expect it.

Thanks for the info chucker...now i did not change any of my settings.. except having it connect to up to 10 peers I think....Other people are now reporting the same problem with the original graphite basestation...so I don't want to try the program again until one of them has it working or there is a fix..the next time there is a big update i will try what you said though...

    Thanks
