Napster-like apps...

Hey guys,

What are some nice Napster-like apps for Mac OS X that have a large library of mp3's? I am using Limewire right now, and it's good for most things, but for some songs it just doesn't seem to be large enough to find any thing, like our beloved Napster did. Thanks

    1. <a href="http://www.xlife.org/acquisition/"; target="_blank">Acquisition</a>

    2. <a href="http://www.neo-modus.com/"; target="_blank">Direct Connect</a>

    3. <a href="http://www.furthurnet.com/"; target="_blank">Furthur Network</a>

Acquisition was just updated and it runs great. I trashed Limewire for it months ago. DirectConnect is a little different but you can find whole albums better than you can with Acquisition. FurtherNetwork is for finding live performances- It's also legal.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Did you buy chance by the full version of Acquisition? I'm wondering if I should.

    Acquisition:

It really does a good job of finding what you're looking for. It just takes a moment for the network connections to become active. Make sure you select the maximum number of peers to connect to.

Actually, I hear this is horrible netiquette, in that keeping 20 or so useless connections clogs up the network, makes ultrapeer hosts and all their leafs unavailable to others and so on. In other words: think twice before going for the maximum. I guess 4 or 5 should do.

Personally I use DC, but giFT is my backup. You'll probably need the iTunes .ogg plugin.

What's the difference between the demo and the full (paid) version of Acquisition? What features are missing/crippled in the non registered version?

I think the only difference is that you don't get the message to pay for it.

    I've just downloaded Acquisition.

This is the probably one of the most beautiful designed (GUI wise) pieces of software I have ever seen so far. Marvelous.
