    Link?

The last build I recall seeing was ages ago and was not very good.

It's an unsupported build loosely based on Mozilla .5. I was wondering how it compares to Chimera and why we need Phoenix in the first place.

I tried it briefly, it seemed extremely fast, but otherwise just felt like regular Mozilla (with the huge tabs). I stopped using it after about 10 minutes.

Edit: FYI, it's based on Moz 1.3a, not Moz 0.5. I think you meant Phoenix 0.5 for Windows.

I thought Phoenix was simply the equivalent of Chimera for Windows.. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

Wow. This is zooper fast. Unfortunately, it doesn't recognize a command-click as being a middle-click, I have to reprogram my mouse.

Ah, whatever. It's kinda kludgy but boy oh boy, it's fast. I'll keep it around, if only to impress people (which is really a sad reason, but whatever).

Pretty blah. Needs a lot of work, as far as the GUI goes.

If we got the best of both worlds from the Mozilla development team, that would kick ass. Chimera is already super fast, Phoenix seems even faster. Add in OmniWeb's polish and it's a lean, mean browsing machine.

Text entry is pretty much fixed now on Chimera, and in Phoenix here the only time is slows down is when typing in the location bar.

As a big fan of phoenix for windows, i booted into X to give it a try. On my 700mhz iBook, it felt twice as fast as safari and 40-50% faster than chimera.

Buggy, but fastest i've seen yet by far. Kudos to Phoenix

Pheonix is just faster because its based off the Mozilla 1.3a where as chimera is based of 1.0 i think...so it has an older gecko engine...I hope chimera developement continues so we get the latest gecko engines for it and type ahead would be nice to

The Chimera team were due to sync with the main tree after the 1.0 release but have decided to do it after 0.7 is released instead.

Apparently the only thing holding back the 0.7 release is getting legal clearance for the name change.

I hope this is true, cause Phoenix is wicked fast. I'm going to recommend it to everyone I support at work (some of them still using Netscape 4.7!)...I think if some people work on the OS X version, it could become a contender (although maybe not if the above is true)

I haven't been that impressed with safari. Aside from Explorer, it is the slowest browser on my iBook 700. (I have Chimera, Phoenix, Netscape, Explorer, and Safari)

Hey Progmac, since we seem to have similar opinions on the speed of browsers (at least on the iBooks), have you tried today's Chimera build (1/22)? It seems a bit faster than past builds, almost as fast as Phoenix.

No clue, I thought they're still working under the Moz 1.0 branch, so unless they switched to the 1.3 branch recently, I'm not sure.

Wow Phoenix is 3x faster than Safari. However since I'm on broadband now it doesn't really matter. But this is an interesting little project. Competition is good but it would be good for us Safari users if KHTML became more popular than Mozilla.

Also these buttons are really ugly!

edit: the ones in the page, like Edit Post. Not the toolbar buttons, I like these even more than Safari. Color is good. Now I think I'll go grab a Safari theme and be happy.

I downloaded it myself finally and can vouch for its speed. Easily 3X faster. Much snappier.
